Mulier, Thomas; Campbell, Keith (13 September 2009). "Hyperinflation Worries? Buy My Jewelry, Richemont's Rupert Says". Bloomberg News. Archived from the original on 6 November 2014 . Retrieved 2014-08-25.

After approx. half an hour, it starts developing a bit - gets a bit deeper and richer. I know patchouli is not listed, but I def. get some patchouli like scent.. The vanilla and the frangipani really steps up and make their fabulous entrée . This fragrance, like others in its class, feels like it has "movement" to it. First EDT is rolling and blustering one moment and calm and still the next - it's a "misty mountain floral". Aldehydes burst forth like warm sunshine and sweet narcisse stands right in the middle of the brightest ray. Lily-of-the-valley and hyacinth give First EDT the distinct green-oily scent that one might find in foothill foliage. Orris is the note of a cool breeze and oakmoss feels forest-like. The drydown is waxy and sweet on me - perhaps from the honey and anamalic notes. I detect the narcisse prominently throughout the duration of First EDT. First is not stiff, or formal, but not girly, either. It feels like putting one's best foot forward in a polished, casually elegant way. That little bit of extra lift that will brighten your day and lend you confidence when the pressure is on. I've never worn this myself, but it's been the signature of my grandmother for as long as I can remember. This is a gorgeous perfume - and has a unique, one of a kind quality about it. I love the dry down after the first 45 minutes.First to my nose has the best of Chanel N5, Joy and Arpege without trying to be either. It’s pure class, refinement and elegance with light and darkness, cleanliness and dirtiness in a unique way that makes it such an exceptional experience. Once the citruses settle down, the sweet floral notes emerge. Because of those ever present aldehydes that dominate the fragrance, they are more of the soapy floral kind. But it's nevertheless a heavenly aroma. The flowers that my trained nose never fails to notice: orchid, a little exotic orchid, pink or white in color, an orchid that has become sweeter with a matching raspberry. The carnation and lily of the valley mix and mingle in good company but they are not as green-floral as other fragrances with lily of the valley and carnation. This is a bigger rose perfume with a Turkish rose that smells lush and velvety, like rose colored velour. There's plenty of flowers that each contribute to this beautiful aroma including ylang and jasmine. Classic floral perfume. First, on my skin, presents a lovely, beautifully blended accord of non-sweet flowers, slightly oily, and richly subtle. the civet is there, but very very demure. This feels like the day when you decide to wear your favorite pencil skirt with heels instead of flats, a silk blouse, and to spend a little more time on your hair and make up. And maybe, you think, I'll add my diamond studs for a little sparkle.

Reflecting Personalities: Jewelry on the Famous and Its Impact on Design". New York: Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum. 2011 . Retrieved 25 August 2014. But recently I begin to like VC&A First, for I start to think that when aldehydes and civet were combined together, it really sends out a sexy (though elegant and graceful at the same time) feminine message. The first time I ever encountered First was on my first trip to Paris From NYC in the 1980s. I was nervous for several reasons. A beautiful blond flight attendant in her 40s helped calm me down. She was very fashionable even in her uniform. I noticed her perfume most. When we landed in France I finally asked her what it was. Her response was First. I never encountered it again. A juicy (not in the modern wet fresh sense) white flower i thought lily but possibly incorrectly, mature perfumyness. However, I was wearing this in my early 30's and received a lot of compliments on it then, but primarily wore it for more formal occasions - it was never an every day perfume for me.

When aldehydes were a height of fashion, good number of women couldn't wear the most famous one, N°5, for numerous reasons. For example, it turns acid on my mother. It has also lost that touch of animalistic funk somewhere in reformulations that makes perfumes so addictive. It's interesting: both my daughters told me it reminds them of Niki de Saint Phalle, which was another love of mine during the eighties and which I've also recently reacquired. It never occurred to me to put the two together. In my mind they are very different scents. If anything, First has somewhat of the same vibe as Chanel 19 (another favorite) because of the hyacinth and narcissus. So I compared notes and what do you know - First and Niki indeed have many in common. Van Cleef & Arpels-designed crown of Empress Farah Pahlavi of Iran. She wore the crown in 1967 coronation ceremony. Pop up exhibition in The Landmark, Hong Kong (2013) Alfred and Esther’s daughter, Renée (born Rachel) Puissant, assumed the company’s artistic direction in 1926. Puissant worked closely with draftsman René Sim Lacaze for the next twenty years. [8] Van Cleef & Arpels were the first French jewelers to open boutiques in Japan and China. This is a power house fragrance - designed for the 80's, however - this is an all time CLASSIC! Truly, ageless and timeless. A great signature fragrance for someone whose chemistry really blends well with the dry down notes. This is majestic and regal. Trustworthy. Confident. This perfume shows leadership and maturity. Someone who is grounded enough to be graceful and elegant even under pressure. Someone who is cool headed, but with a warmth that allows you to know that they really "Care". Not for the fainted of heart, not for the candy-chocolate lovers, not for those who swear by the current ambroxan juices.

I was initially excited to smell the aldehydes and then I was intrigued by the rose - the rose reminds me very much of YSL's Paris (circa 2005). I would like to wear this with dark blue jeans and a top, because I like wearing heavy hitters casually. Van Cleef & Arpels was charged with the task of making the crown of Queen Nazli of Egypt in the 1930s. [9]

MULTIPLE PACKS

I go through phases where I will set this one aside and not wear it for awhile, then will remember the compliments that I have received from this perfume -- and I have to re-evaluate it. Longevity is excellent and projection is mild - you'll need to be close and intimate to get a good whiff of this. That's a good thing, because not everyone wants to fill a room with such an aldehydic, animalic scent. That said, I wouldn't mind if First left more of a trail.
