sorry to be bringing up an old thread, but I think my heat shield is rattling. I thought at first it was my a/c compressor since the rattle comes & goes and I thought that the heat from the a/c compressor was causing the rattle. Enquired about goodwill as car is 3 months out of warranty and has only covered 12000 miles from new 3 years ago when we bought it. the heat shield now has a big hole in it where originally it had a small hole for the retainer's stud to pass through Commonly used on Some Ford, Seat & V/W for underbody heat shields, noise insulations, bulk heads etc. Model: 05 Octy 2 Eleg Hatch, 1.9 TDI, Sahara Beige 260k, 2011 170 TDI DSG Superb Estate, vRS Fabia 2005/55

Well today our up! has just returned from the VW dealer and lo & behold it had to have a new heat shield fitted. The Ford Mondeo hit our roads in 1993, and has consistently been a sales success. Now on its 4th incarnation, it remains a drivers favourite.Haven't heard rattle (maybe just wan't looking for it and wrote it off as "cold start noise"??) but was cleaning under the hood a bit today and noticed that my shield is only holding onto 1 bolt while other isn't doing anything at all lol. All the "filler" that's supposed hold my shield in place just isn't there and it moves a LOT since really only one bolt is holding it.

Fix depends on whether its the heatshield that's corroded away around the fixing, or the fixing that's corroded away or fallen off. If it's the former, just make a plate out of anything you like with a small hole in the middle and sandwich the heatshield under/above that. All content is viewed and used at your own risk. We do not warrant the accuracy or reliability of any of the information. I thought not, but the listing is for a VW Transporter. I know VW parts are similar to Skoda, but the listing didn't state Skoda Fabia mk1. The views expressed herein are those of the individual contributors and not necessarily those of BRISKODA or SKODA. I'm thinking about just replacing the bands with the adjustable bands you see on rubber couplings at Home Depot for joining ABS plastic pipe or cast iron pipe like the 3 or 4" bands.div style="line-height: 16.7999992370605px; : rgb251, 251, 253;">The noise was very weak, but the UP deserves better

Rum - Yes, the thin sheet of metal sandwiched between heat shield and clip over stud is what I will try. The video I tried linking to and can't find again showed exactly what you have suggested, cheers. I scraped out all the iron oxide rust and the hole in the heat shield is a circle, like it has always been that size. The heat shield looks in good condition. I've got some washers that will cover it though. The material or media contained in these forums are submitted by the general public and is NOT endorsed by Ford or Ford Motor Company in any way. They are a different type of part than the one used on the under bonnet sound proofing, so just buy some, but, be aware that in most cases, the original retainers will still be on the car but rusted up, and the reason that you are finding that the heat shield has fallen down is because it is made of some aluminium alloy kind of material, and these retainers are zinc'd steel - so that has started a reaction that has locally trashed the aluminium alloy material - and it has "gone" and the heat shield now has a big hole in it where originally it had a small hole for the retainer's stud to pass through. So that means that you will need to make up some thin metal disc patches/repair washers to cover these holes when you go to fit new retainers. Not to solid. It felt like kit kat wrappers as well.

Anyone replaced their heat shield clips recently? Sounded like exhaust was falling off, but after prodding around it was a clip that was corroded. Others didn't look too healthy, neither. I have searched and an old thread showed a part number DISCLAIMER: fordownersclub.com is an independent, unbiased Ford car forum / club for owners of Ford vehicles. Basically the exhaust heat shield gets eaten away at the fixing points due to corrosion of the metal fixing nut used to secure it to the car & becomes loose, these methods basically give the fixings nuts new materials to hold up & stop the shield rattling.Someone said to me that the rear end of the heat shield isn't really necessary and can safely be removed. Is that the case?
