To test Technics SL-1210GR I used mostly new records of different genres. I’m not going to write that it was an audiophile or in any way special edition because I did not buy records according to such criteria but by the type of music and the music content. It is a huge bonus for me if this album, which means something to me, I can buy in some superior edition. For example, I recently bought Ole, John Coltrane in the Rhino release although I know there is a much better and more expensive edition (ORG Records). But that album is missing in the record collection, I have not listened to it, and I do not see the reason why it should be delayed just because I do not have the money to buy a three times expensive edition. At the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Panasonic announced it would be resuming production with a new line of turntables, [32] beginning with the Limited Edition SL-1200GAE [33]

Panasonic Corporation of North America. "Technics* SL-1200GLD Sweepstakes". Archived from the original on 2004-08-10 . Retrieved 2018-11-25. The drive system designed by Matsushita is direct-drive rather than the more commonly found belt-drive type, a less expensive design. The direct-drive design, which was developed to reduce wow and flutter, produces a very quiet turntable that, for a direct-drive turntable, has minimal motor and bearing noise, (although the bearing rumble does tend to become characteristic in well-used turntables). This was partially achieved through the fact that the SL1210/1200 made the platter a part of the motor mechanism. Technics have finally unveiled their brand new SL-1210 Mk7 direct drive turntable, a high torque turntable aimed primarily for DJ purposes. The new Mk7 model inherits the traditional design of previous SL-1210 turntables yet with enhanced reliability and durability and features a brand new coreless direct drive motor alongside a wealth of various sound-enhancing technologies. The SL-1210 Mk7 is Technics first new standard DJ turntable in nine years. Announced in January 2016 CES in Las Vegas, released in October 2016, SL-1200 Grand Class, an aluminum bound turntable with a high–damping matte magnesium tonearm, a four–layer turntable cabinet, three-layer platter, complete with a microprocessor and the use of a newly developed coreless twin-rotor direct-drive motor with no iron core with rotary positing sensors to eliminate cogging, as well as providing 78 rpm speed compatibility. Compared to the SL-1200 MK5 model, the latest upgraded version, the platter now weighs almost a kilogram more. It is made of a cast aluminum piece and strengthened by crossbars to achieve greater strength. The full speed of 33.33 rpm comes in just 0.7 seconds. It should also be noted that the base is made of double-cast aluminum and that the base and the platter are additionally covered with rubber to absorb vibration. There are more advanced solutions from which we conclude that this is a significantly improved turntable from what we remember over the past decades. Both the power and phono terminals let you detach the cables which prevent the cables from accidentally being disconnected while you perform. Thanks to the disconnecting cable terminals maintenance of the cables is easier and if you wish you can connect your preferred phono cable. The gold-plated phono terminals minimise degradation of sound quality. Using Technics’ famous and expensively engineered direct drive system, the SL1210 MK7 delivers class-leading torque for super-stable pitch and rapid start/stop action. When you need to precisely control your mixing, this is still the standard setter. Turning off the strobe light allows the listener to concentrate more effectively on the music, especially in dimmed environment.

The turntable is made at an enviable level. I do not have any objections, rather, I would say that it is an exemplary specimen of how the turntable should look like in the price range. Okay, maybe I have one objection, which is the position of the power cable. It is located on the underside and is not at hand reach, just like a slightly unscathed attachment of the ground.

Today we have an opportunity to review a successor of a legend: Technics SL-1210GR turntable.

When you hear something like this, when you understand what you are doing, then you do not want to place old, worn records on this turntable, but looking at how to get an even better release because you want to hear more.

Maybe the best example is the Yerba Buena Bounce, The Hot Club of San Francisco (Reference Recordings, 2011). Guitars, double basses, violins, and other instruments, in lively gypsy jazz compositions, besides acting convincingly, harmoniously depicted the beauty of this musical genre. In other words, there was no overlap or masking, rather than transparent insight into the composition itself. Of the other components that make the turntable integration, I used the Clearaudio Nano turntable preamplifier and Marohei Cables CT Reference custom made phono cables. The SL-1200 was introduced in 1972 as an evolution to the popular SL-1100. It was dubbed "The Middle Class Player System". It was delivered in two different versions: The SL-1200 came with a tonearm section. The SL-120 came without a tonearm section. An SME tonearm was the usual choice for the audiophile. The SL-1210GAE is wholly made in Japan by skilled artisans’ hands, with a significant level of hand-made processes to ensure the highest quality possible. The top panel features a special badge, inscribed with the unique serial number to signify that it is a 55th anniversary model.
