Production Featurettes (SD, 39 minutes) -- "Tag Along with Will Ferrell" follows the comedian on a typical day of shooting, "How They Made the North Pole" looks at the design and implementation of the arctic sets, "Lights Camera Puffin" examines the use of animation and special effects in the film, and "That's a Wrap" explores the various post-production work and efforts of the filmmakers. I don’t think WB would do that, since they have a very good track record with 4Ks, but it does make me wonder. While I was disappointed to find that the features are merely presented in standard definition, the supplemental package is quite extensive and loaded with content for adults and kids alike. Ferrell’s Buddy is so naïve, that his interactions with new friends and situations is a constant source of comedic gold. Even so, ‘Elf’ is the sort of holiday flick I’ll pull out again and again, so I can plop down on the couch with my son, and munch popcorn with him until the credits roll.Updated daily and in real-time, we track all high-def disc news and release dates, and review the latest disc titles.

Favreau's film is family entertainment at its finest, featuring a performance by Ferrell that is at once innocent, tender, and laugh-out-loud funny. In our house, Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without Buddy the Elf, and this superior 4K UHD presentation ensures we'll be enjoying annual visits for years to come. A big step up from the 2008 Blu-ray, the 4K UHD edition of Elf supplies even more Christmas cheer, thanks to a vibrant, razor-sharp transfer with HDR that bursts with vivid color.detail also enjoy a nice bump, allowing us to enjoy its stray darker moments as well as a wide range of appealing gradients. Not only is the film one of Ferrell’s more reliable comedies, it manages to exude heart without feeling insincere or artificial in its unabashed love of the Christmas season. I've seen the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree in person many times, but I don't think it's ever looked more beautiful and magical or twinkled more brightly than it does here.

Nevertheless, Favreau strikes the perfect tone and deftly paces this bright, colorful Christmas film. It also doesn’t help that brief bursts of artifacts and thin slivers of edge enhancement still pop up from time to time (although, to be fair, their appearances will only be noticed by the most discerning viewers). Midway through the movie, Buddy's innocent antics took an unexpected turn, and suddenly, my date's laughter wasn't just for Will Ferrell's elfish charm. The faint print damage that plagued the Blu-ray is gone, fabric textures like fur, tweed, and wool are much sharper, depth is more palpable, blacks are richer, whites are brighter, and the image exudes far more dimension. However, it's comprised mainly of repurposed material and doesn't come close to delivering the same experience as a PiP track. Once discovered at the North Pole, the human infant is adopted by a kindly elder elf named Papa (Bob Newhart) and raised to believe he too is an elf. Aside from a few questionably soft shots, fine detail is fairly crisp, textures are decent, and on-screen hair and stitching are pretty well defined.
