Description

This is a novella that was initially included in an anthology called Hot Pursuit in 2004. The novella, set in St. Petersburg, was reissued separately in 2014. And as the investigation unfolds and the stakes rise. Sam starts to believe his only option is to hunt for answers himself. These books will make you laugh, cry, rage and marvel at how the written word can inspire every emotion you have!' One of Karen Rose’s most popular series is the Baltimore series. The series is set in Baltimore, Maryland, and follows a group of characters as they navigate the city’s dark underworld of crime and corruption. The series is notable for its complex, multi-layered plotlines and realistic portrayal of the city and its inhabitants.

This is a really interesting concept for a story because it follows not only the perspective of the police working on a serial killer case, but also the perspective of a psychologist who has found himself involved in the case. Kit is a determined, hardworking cop who is motivated by the murder of her foster sister to solve as many cold cases as possible to give families closure like she didn’t get. Sam is a psychologist who does lots of charity work and seems like an all round Good Samaritan. One of his patients disclose information connected to a serial killer that leaves him feeling unsettled, and he gets pulled into this case and even finds himself as a suspect. And, to hype up the tension, the major villain gets narration time as well. I really wanted some big-time justice there and Karen Rose delivered. Cold-Blooded Liar includes victims that are women and some are underage, so be aware of that. The plot, the complex storyline, and the characterization are all so compelling, I absorbed this as fast as I could. For example, some of the Karen Rose books are set in Minneapolis, others in Baltimore, and yet others in Atlanta, Cincinnati, St. Petersburg, and Chicago. All of Karen Rose’s books are connected. They take place in the same universe and fall under the umbrella of her aptly named Romantic Suspense series. Yet, as the investigation gets underway it becomes increasingly clear there is more at play than anyone thought and all eyes soon move to Aarons brothers. Berkley Publishing Group and Karen Rose provided a complimentary digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. Publication date is currently set for August 15, 2023. This review was originally posted at Mystery and Suspense Magazine.

The new ADA in town is here partly to start cleaning up the corrupt players on the force which is one of the reasons Broussard left the police. The stakes feel as high as they can get when there is an attempted kidnapping of the ADA's son, Elijah. The emotional angst of that possibility and the situation of other minors kept me in suspense. Not only is there a lot of action, but also many details as the criminals try to accomplish their goals. They want to force the ADA to let them get on with their criminal activities. A fast-paced, high-intensity story that’ll carry you along on an amazing journey.”— New York Times bestselling author Lori Foster But Kit is one determined detective and will stop at nothing to uncover a killer who has been active for at least twenty years. This story is complex with many facets that will wind you up right along with the plot. Rose is not shy about writing with passion, guts, and the raw feelings involved with crimes. She dives into the personal aspects and we even get hints of a budding romance heating up. All of Karen Rose’s books take place in the same “universe” and are connected with each other. However, they are separated into sub-sereis by their location. The location-based series are listed further down. ELLIJAH is awesome but unbelievable at 9 years old. So definitely suspend your beliefs in this novel and just enjoy what you can. Everything lays out a bit too easily and some of the connections are OTT And with a fast-paced, edge of your seat and brilliantly unpredictable storyline. This was a gripping read. That I'd one hundred percent recommend to crime fiction fans everywhere
