Description

Furthermore, and this is very important to note, PCIe splitters DO NOT increase the lane count! If you split a single x4 slot into two x16 slots, you will not have 32 PCIe lanes. Instead, the bandwidth of the four lanes of the host card will be divided across the split ends. They are also great when installing multiple smaller cards like a network adapter, sound card, USB or SATA expansion cards, etc. Each of these cards utilizes only a single PCIe lane and thus would not saturate the host slot. There Are Many Types and Configuration of Splitters Now you know how to add more PCIe slots to your computer. Physically changing the number of slots on the motherboard is impossible. Fortunately, you can use the PCIe bus from one slot to run multiple devices.

I've never tested it, but allegedly it will split a single x16 slot into an x8 (side) x4 (top, mechanically still PCIe x4) and x4 in M.2 2280 format.

this http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/547755-REG/Dulce_Systems_963_0700_0_PRO_EX_PCI_Express.html does what you specified, just in a large scale. EDIT/CORRECTION: They used DifferentSLIAuto as well and were unable to get mining card to work with separate drivers between cards. Also, @HoneyBadger I should clarify, the SLOG should be useful, it's intended for the main pool of SAS HDDs. I thought I'd partition the two M.2 SSDs so that two small partitions on each drive act as a mirror vdev for an SLOG cache, and the remaining two partitions could be mirrored as well, albeit for a different pool - git or whatever. It's just that whatever enterprise M.2 SSDs with data loss protection I find tend to be like 960 GB in size, and that's waaay too much for SLOG. I just dont want to waste the space of SSDs as expensive as that. Feel free to comment on whether I'm shooting myself in the foot with these partitioning schemes, but from what I've read, it should be ok.

PCI-E 6 Pin to Dual 8(6+2) Pin Splitter Power Cable, 6 Pin

you're missing the problem of the actual splitter needing to support sli which it will definitely not I think where most people get into trouble is when they start using SATA power cables to power either risers or GPU's directly, especially if they do more than 2 connections per SATA "string". The wires aren't the problem, it's the pins. SATA is rated for 1.5a per pin, so 3 x 12v = 54w (PCIe max slot power is 75w). Per pin amperage for a 4-pin Molex is 8.5a, so you can get 102w from it's +12v pin. I've seen both 11a and 13a for PCIe pins so 3x 12v = 396-468wSince there are 3 yellow leads carrying power on either a 6 or 8 pin cable, that works out to a max capacity of 192 x 3 = 576 watts for 18 gauge and 264 x 3 = 792 watts for 16 gauge. Having the option to add more PCIe slots is essential if the selection of PCIe slots on your motherboard isn’t enough to accommodate more expansion cards.

PCI Express, MiniPCI Express, MiniPCI splitters | Amfeltec

You can't just add bandwidth. The max you will get out of any devices connected to an M.2 port is 4x. That's the PHYSICAL limit of that port at the moment. SKU-042-01 Flexible x4 PCI Express 4-Way Splitter (power from host board) ( x1 PCI Express adapters) With splitters from m.2 to x4 PCIe then x4 to x16 PCIe splitter, I'm curious if with some BIOS tweak or DifferentSLIAuto will allow for enough bandwidth for the system to run SLI. But like I said above NVIDIA requires x8 for SLI The power for the downstream MiniPCI Express expansion board is supplied via a MiniPCI Express connector. The MiniPCI Express Adapter has a standard 4-pin “floppy drive” power connector for receiving power from a standard ATX power supply (5V) or any other external power supply (3.3V or 5V).Great article, thanks. I’ve got a small motherboard with only 2 PCIe slots in a large case and I need another now for an audio card. I was sure there was a way to add slots but didn’t know it was called a splitter/riser. Thanks for the clear, no jargon explanation. However, there are only two ways to increase the amount of PCIe slots you have:
