Description

These maintain a fixed, constant, pre-set voltage throughout the charging period. The current cannot be set and will fall as the battery state-of-charge increases.

There are many different types of hand held digital conductance tester on the market. They generally give a good indication
of problems but the following points should always be taken
into account. Switch on the charger. See below for the correct charging conditions depending on your type of charger. Note. Many customers severely underestimate the amount of time necessary to charge a flat battery. This results in customers returning batteries saying that they have charged the battery but that it is still not holding charge.Excessive use of electrical consumers, – air conditioning, stereo (incorrectly fitted direct to the battery) etc

The batteries recommended within this Yuasa application list are equal to or above the original equipment specification. Fitting a smaller or less powerful battery will result in a shorter service life and earlier failure. The failure will normally be seen as deep cycling/premature wear and tear. These maintain a fixed, constant, pre-set current throughout the charging period irrespective of the battery on-charge voltage. Do not charge AGM batteries on a constant current charger.Considerable investment in European manufacturing facilities, the establishment of a European network of 6 wholly owned companies, and the constant search by Yuasa to provide even more reliable power from smaller batteries, has resulted in the company's current position and proud claim to be No.1 in Europe! They provide dependable starting power, exceptional corrosion resistance and the performance to handle the demands of today’s modern vehicles. B. Stop charging when the battery is gassing freely and the battery-voltage shows no increase over a period of at least 2 hours. It is good practice to wait for about 20 minutes for the gases to clear before removing the leads from the battery as some chargers remain ‘live’ and can cause a spark.

Yuasa lead-acid batteries are built to the highest standards. They are manufactured, in most cases to correspond with or exceed the vehicle manufacturer’s requirements and specifications. Undercharging occurs if the battery is not receiving enough charge to return it to a full state of charge, this will slowly cause sulphation. This fault can occur if the car is being used only occasionally for short journeys, or for Start-Stop urban motoring. Undercharging will occur if alternator voltage is low (13.6-13.8volts), the alternator belt is loose or battery cables are worn and causing high resistance – If in doubt seek advice from an auto electrician. Battery Problems Manufacturing Faults The majority of commercial chargers, particularly home-chargers, are of this type, and allow neither the voltage nor the current to be preset. Use the same procedure as for Constant Potential Chargers in the paragraph above. Boost Chargers If the alternator regulator is not set properly, or alternator voltage control circuit fails, then the battery can be subjected to an excessive charge.

Battery Problems

If you are using a constant-current charger or a boost-charger, remove the vent-plugs or manifolds before charging. There is no need to remove the vent-plugs or manifolds if you are using a constant-potential or a ‘smart’ charger.

Due to the high demands of the OEM market and the technical and manufacturing standards of Yuasa batteries, the rate of genuine manufacturing faults is negligible. Different battery manufacturing design techniques can significantly effect the reading on one digital conductance tester as common algorithms have to be used. For example, batteries designed with more durability in mind tend to carry more material and higher density, this is usually reflected in a lower initial voltage, but longer discharge times. Digital testers can only determine realistically the initial internal resistance of the battery at the particular state of battery, not how much material is available. This can cause considerable difference between the indicated CCA data and the real CCA data obtained in a laboratory under real current loads to the appropriate battery standard specified. Yuasa Silver car batteries allow around 50,000 engine starts, compared to around 20,000 on a normal battery. For example, if the battery has a voltage of 12.16V, charge it for 10 hours at the recommended charge rate. We receive data from battery manufacturers and this may be subject to change and / or manufacturing tolerances.C. Charge the battery at the recommended charge rate. If you cannot set the recommended rate, extend or reduce the charging time on a pro rata basis. For example, if the recommendation is to charge the battery at 4.0A for 6 hours (24Ah = 4.0 x 6), charge the battery for 12 hours if you can only set the charger at 2.0A (24Ah = 2.0 x 12). If a battery is allowed to stand in a discharged state either on or off a vehicle for a period of time, a chemical reaction takes place which will permanently impair the performance and life of the battery, this process is called “sulphation”. The Yuasa HSB110 Silver 12V Car Battery 5 Year Guarantee allows around 50,000 engine starts as compared to around 20,000 on a normal battery. The Silver car batteries come fully charged, ready to fit, and are completely maintenance-free. D. Charge the battery for the number of hours shown in the table below depending on the open-circuit voltage.
