When Dean Nicholson left his hometown of Dunbar on the eastern coast of Scotland in September 2018, he had just turned 30 and was planning to cycle around the world. I have also found that those with the least are often so very generous, that’s not to say those that have more don’t give, but the generosity of many of the poor is humbling.

It is an engrossing book for the combination of adventure and highlighting an issue that doesn't get as much attention as it should. This was exactly what I needed to read, but at the same time, horrible, because I can't travel to any of these countries.Traveling "with" him through countries I've never explored before was certainly interesting; I wish there was more about the actual travel in the book. And while camping in a forest near Belgrade, a woman woke him up on a cold February morning with a flask of hot coffee and a tin of tuna for Nala.

How remarkable that the fates aligned and Dean happened upon the kitten, who he later named Nala, after Simba's (from the Lion King) childhood friend. By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions.During COVID times when travel is discouraged, I was able to journey with Dean Nicholson and Nala through Bosnia, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Serbia and Hungary (one place that I actually really have been) and these two could not have been better companions. I’m thrilled to be able to tell our story in full in our book Nala’s World and explain how this little cat has completely changed my life. He seemed to be constantly trying to prove how much he loved Nala (who kind of became his ticket to ride, as it were--not out of an intentional action to exploit her, I think, but because that's what his popularity and support depended on (which is an awkward place to hang your hat)), and to be editing his thoughts and experiences into the most pleasing/innocuous soundbites. He seems like a really nice fellow, though, who cares about the plight of animals around the globe, as well as the environment.

About the Author Dean Nicholson was a manual labourer in his hometown of Dunbar, Scotland, when he set off in September 2018 to cycle around the globe. If you haven't been following what is really a very minor news story that's uplifting and cute, this book will not be interesting to you. Nicholson turned their unexpected internet fame into impressive fund raising for animal related charities. And I'm definitely checking them both out on Instagram to follow their further adventures (COVID-19 interrupted their travels. Dean on käyttänyt tunnettuuttaan hyväkseen, järjestänyt varainkeruukampanjoita ja lahjoittanut varoja eri maissa löytöeläinten hyväksi työskenteleville järjestöille.

Complications with passports, the agony of watching over a kitten being neutered, taking a cat on a kayak and a whole lot more adventures worth reading about. The video of how they met has had 20 million views and their Instagram has grown to almost 750k followers — and still counting! Afraid that the kitten would be run over or snatched by a bird of prey, Dean put her into the pouch on the front of his bike.

Molto consigliato per la storia vera, l'umanità che traspare non solo del protagonista ma anche delle situazioni in cui si trova con la sua micina e delle persone che incontra sul suo cammino. Hachette Book Group is a leading book publisher based in New York and a division of Hachette Livre, the third-largest publisher in the world.I particularly like true life books featuring animals and this one was very entertaining - and informative too. Through her story we share about loving and caring for animals, our beautiful wee book will show young readers everywhere that you can find friendship in the most unlikely places. But it was only when he began raising money for local animal welfare charities that Nicholson realised that something extraordinary was happening. Soon on his travels with the cat he named Nala, they forged an unbreakable bond — both curious, independent, resilient and adventurous. This book might not be the classic tale of a solo round the world cycle trip, but travel with a cat brings an interesting dimension to the genre.
