The motifs of this journey are dark and sometimes sinister. With the overarching theme of a path well worn, a life deeply lived. While the depth is present, don't assume all joy or all heartache; lust and beauty are woven in leaving a relatable cadence of life, love, and death. Pain, blood, flesh, sex, death and tears; necrophilia, rape and other abysses of human existence —these are the worlds that Till Lindemann conjures up. "The more people get upset about it, the more it spurs me on to write even worse poetry," he once said in an interview with the German newspaper Die Welt.He told German music channel VIVA in 1997: "It's actually about making a blatant statement, but paraphrasing it with allegories. Alittle bit flowery like the old 60s hit songs where they say, 'I'll stay with you tonight,' but everybody knows they want to have heavy sex."

Lindemann showed up to his book signing in Moscow with an unknown person in a gimp costume. The female gimp was led through the crowd by Lindemann before he sat down to sign autographs and talk to fans. [37] It is still unknown who was in the outfit, but suggestions are that of his girlfriend at the time. Lindemann appeared as a guest – drummer on the album Hea Hoa Hoa Hea Hea Hoa by Feeling B for the song "Lied von der unruhevollen Jugend", which is in Russian. In March, via a statement in German, Ukrainian and Russian, the band said it was particularly saddened by the suffering of Ukrainians. "Each member of the band has different experiences with the two countries; all musicians have friends, colleagues, partners and fans in Ukraine and Russia." Lindemann briefly worked as a carpenter and then discoveredhis love for music in the 1980s,especially that of the underground music scene in East Germany. In interviews he gave at the time, Lindemann defended himself against the Nazi accusations and against the fact that the band was constantly accused of breaking taboos. The frontman said Rammstein's music had nothing to do with such controversies, and maintained it was steeped in love, in all its beautiful and dark forms. In 2021, Lindemann sang an orchestral ballad from the 1930s, "Lubimiy Gorod" ("Favorite City") and was praised for it. He shot music videos for his solo projects in Moscow and St. Petersburg, and performed at a military music festival on Moscow's Red Squarein front of an enthusiastic audience.

Lastly, if you haven't done so while keeping up with the translations - please buy the actual book as well! My translations cannot do the real poems and their illustrations justice, no, not in the slightest. You cannot get a feel for Till's soul as intimately without an actual copy of 'Messer' in hand. My own copy is quite battered now and filled with annotations from those hours of translating - but it's one of my most prized possessions. XD

The context in which the words areused, however, is rarely affectionate. And so Lindemann and his Rammstein colleagues continue to flirt with many topics consideredinappropriate, breaking taboos. He has maintained a popular fanbase outside of his homeland, in particular in Russia, where there is one of the largest Rammstein fan communities.

Fans fear it will be the last, asmany of the songs sound like a farewell. But despite lines like "Man soll gehen wenn es am schönsten ist" (You should leave at your peak) or the album's last song "Adieu," Rammstein are set to continue. The translation project will keep getting sporadic updates, however. My goal is to eliminate all italics in all poems eventually, even the incomprehensible ones. Any ties or links I can find with Rammstein songs/lyrics or literary works, I will also mention in notes. I also plan to rework some of the translations that I'm not too happy with. So I've still got quite a bit to do, and it's not the last that you've seen of me, that's for sure! XD SZ: Till Lindemann about desire". Archived from the original on 28 August 2016 .
