About this deal

With a 9-blade rounded diaphragm, I get 18-pointed sunstars on brilliant points of light mostly at the smallest apertures. Disclaimer II: I’m an official X-photographer. My views are most likely as biased as they come. This being said, I’m an open and honest guy and I speak my opinions. Whether you believe my views of this lens or not, at least you get to see some images from Denmark 😛 However, although some of the attributes of an f2.8 hold (like expected sharpness and focussing speed at wider apertures), if you’re going to equivalence focal length, it makes equal sense to equivalence aperture since total light gathering does have a commensurate value. Since telephoto lenses can also be used for sports and landscape work, let’s take a look at how they perform at a longer distance as well. Keep in mind that the 90mm examples are more magnified than those from the 80mm because I took them from the exact So long as you don't need to get closer than 2 feet (0.6 meters) or need stabilization, the 90mm f/2 is a better lens.

The XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR would be a great lens for a primarily prime lens photographer to round out their longer focal lengths while adding a macro lens at the same time. Additionally, for zoom lens photographers, this lens fills an interesting role of fast telephoto prime, with the added capability of a macro lens. The price of this lens is a hard pill to swallow. It’s expensive compared to other medium telephoto macro lenses. Fujifilm really needs to produce its own macro-flash unit, which would compliment the lens and confirm that the firm fully supports X-series users specialising in close-up photography. Verdict

Serious macro shooting is often done with manual focus. Manual focus works well, with very fine control, perfect for getting the exact focus with a magnified image.

Chromatic aberration (CA) is the lens' inability to focus on the sensor or film all colours of visible light at the same point. Severe chromatic aberration gives a noticeable fringing or a halo effect around sharp edges within the picture. It can be cured in software. Hello Fuji friends! I would like to buy a macro lens for my XT-2, XH-1, X-Pro2. What would you recommend either Fuji or other manufacturers? Thank you for your assistance. I’m coming to the end of this article on the best Fujifilm X macro lenses (aps-C sensor). The main point is here and you should be able to make a real thoughtful choice! I will continue to write about Fujifilm lenses little by little! I also wrote a post about the best Fujifilm pancake lenses if you are interested in this type of lens! The very broad focus ring is clad in ribbed rubber and has good damping, though the focus by wire makes manual focus a bit less tactile than I normally like for macro lenses. The metal aperture ring is very well damped, perhaps even a bit too damped, and I think the detents on this lens are a bit weaker than on some of Fuji’s other recent lenses, so it isn’t as satisfying to use as the f/2 primes. The Fuji 80mm with included lens hood Autofocus and Image StabilizationThe OIS is very nice though but the X-H1 already has IBIS anyway, and given the size and weight, you'd likely be using it with that camera anyway?

Magnification ratio: also known as the magnification/reproduction ratio, this is the ratio of the actual size of a subject to the size projected onto your camera sensor. A macro lens can be considered as soon as the ratio of 1:1 is reached. There are other lenses (such as the Laowa) that offer larger ratios (2:1 to 5:1), Looking at central sharpness first, we find the results are excellent at f/2.8, becoming outstanding at f/4 and maintain an excellent level from f/5.6 to f/16. Sharpness is still very good at f/22. Requires FUJIFILM X Acquire and Tether Shooting Plug-in PRO/ Tether Shooting Plug-in (Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom® 6 or CC is required). In other words, it seems the Fuji lens is optically superior, and a clear technical winner particularly for a high magnification macro lens where resolution and planarity are important features. The X-E3 supports both Full HD and 4K video recording. Videos can be shot with Film Simulations in-camera to easily produce creative high-resolution footage. Apochromatic lenses have special lens elements (aspheric, extra-low dispersion etc) to minimize the problem, hence they usually cost more.
