Description

Mocking Hollywood is always fun and Moore has a ball doing so, making fun of actors egos, Marlon Brando’s all but incomprehensible mumbled speaking voice, and the sycophants who surround the famous decrying everything they do as amazing. Warriors, Ro-Busters, Rogue Trooper, Ro-Jaws’ Robo-Tales, Tharg the Mighty, Time Twisters and several one-off strips.

Unfortunately, the strip, did not last long at 2000 AD, as Moore had a tumultuous falling out with illustrator Alan Davis after a disagreement over the reprinting rights to other works the two had collaborated on in the past.

Everything is very clear and that clarity helps the more visual gags land and work as well as intended. This isn't exactly embarrassingly bad or morally abhorrent, but it's such lightweight fare for Moore, it barely has any teeth or brains to it. They’re nicely drawn, and raise the occasional smile, but rapidly run into the brick wall of repetition, which was inevitable when violence was always the answer.

To be honest it’s not that great, the comic as a whole was aimed at kids (it features Cadet Dredd rather than Judge Dredd, for instance) and while Johnson and Bell capture the character’s speech patterns well enough the story is fairly bland, there’s weak satire of characters like Superman and Wolverine, though just altered enough so no one got sued, mockery of various pop culture tropes and a trip through history which sees the duo vandalising art in a surprisingly dull way. You think he's going to totally fall for the girl and it's going to turn into some lame-o love triangle where he falls in love with her and D. When I asked what they might have that was local and interesting and hard to find in the States, they were stumped at first.and Quinch are irredeemable, so Moore sets the starting bar to immoderate, and escalates from there, sequencing the set-ups and punchlines into complete plots. An artist who’s slick, clean lines could effortlessly capture the frantic pace and detailed descriptions of a Moore script.
