It was the first GoPro to have a waterproof design out-of-the-box, making it more resilient and the camera has enough to make it a convincing update on the older models. It's a nice touch that fast-tracks the editing process, but it's more of a firmware upgrade than a headline-worthy feature.

While you get slightly improved stabilization with GoPro's new flagship, the actual quality of its 4K video isn't noticeably better than the Hero 8 Black's. It lacks GoPro’s latest user interface and efficiency tweaks but if you’re after a straightforward, flagship-level action cam, opting for the slightly older Hero 11 is an easy way to save a few quid. Finally, there's the Display Mod (available for both Hero 9 Black and Hero 8 Black) for those who want a larger front-facing screen the Hero 9 Black's 1. It comes with both front and rear colour displays for easy framing and it’s compatible with a wide range of GoPro Mods and accessories. So, in short, I need a new p hone and a more powerful computer to enjoy many of the benefits of the Hero 9, not something I can afford at the moment.
