Description

Dividers can also be removed during the winter to unite the colony and reintroduced the following season.

Then you need to make sure any extractor can take that size of frame, they will cost a bit more, but there are some advantages. Its a valid point that many extractors won't accept that size (though many will), but there are always ways around these things for the rare times they may be needed.

This is 20% higher in density than competitor’s boxes, therefore offering higher durability and improved thermal properties. Please note - All of our products must be installed on a level solid base, the usual but not limited to methods are either concrete, paving slabs (flags), a wooden frame. The 14x12 Pent Garden Shed is constructed by our team of expert craftsmen using only the highest quality timber. Sometimes a product they’ve made will be functionally perfect but have a small cosmetic fault and they have been putting these to one side. There was a long piece in a BBKA magazine 2 or 3 years ago extolling the virtues of brood and a half.

Like many other newbeeks who started out on standard nationals (and WBC in my case) this year, I'm definitely moving to 14x12 next.and to be honest the 14 x 12 box is usually big enough to take even the biggest colony and the most fecund of queens- by the time they have got to full size you have supers on anyway and they have the extra space they need . Queens are sent in a travelling cage with several attendants, candy and full introduction instructions.

If your queens are fecund enough to need that sized brood box then far better (IMHO) to go for double brood. There are other reasons which I'm not experienced enough to comment on but make sense to me such as helping expansion and lower likelyhood to swarm. The technical storage or access is strictly necessary for the legitimate purpose of enabling the use of a specific service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user, or for the sole purpose of carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network. Only one flaw with BS National I see and that is the box size should have been all one size and the boxes a mid size box between the two current sizes of super and deep brood. This will not affect the structural integrity of the product – this is natural and is not covered by a guarantee.

The pent roof makes the unit blend into the garden while giving you full headroom throughout the complete shed.We have also eliminated the use of integrated feeders that cause issues like disturbance to the nest when feeding, brace comb, and drowning bees. We have also made the roof 100% thicker than competitor’s allowing the highest point of heat loss to be vastly reduced. But it's all a matter of personal choice and what suits YOU - the only way to find out is to try a 14 x 12 and see. The shed floor comes as standard with 18mm oriented strand board on 38 x 50 runners keeping the floor 2" off the ground. These are a great size especially if you have a WBC and are looking for more brood space than the British Standard National allows.
