The characters in this are okay, although I do not think there is enough character development for them to be likeable. I did not even warm to Izzy that much and we follow her for the entire read. There are some interesting characters and dynamics in this but King does not develop them enough to really get the benefit. Again, this felt like a wasted opportunity. Liam is persistent, and soon Hannah's defenses slowly wear down, and she lets him in. His loveable dog Tank has helped. All opinions are my own.This book is told in first person present tense. It's a weird type of writing; one I can't really get past. I was taught in school not to write this way, so when I find a book that is, I find myself yelling in my head at the writing. I also ran across a couple proofreading errors, but they didn't really detract from the story. Eat & drink to your heart's content as we lay on unlimited dining for your family – that’s as many mince pies and as much hot chocolate as you can manage! I really enjoyed this. It was such a cute story about a little girl trying to make friends but worried about what they'll think of her older sister, who has learning difficulties. There's one really mean character that really riled me up and I'm glad for where the story went! I'm not sure why I gave this a 2 stars originally, but I'm bumping it up to a 3, to reflect this reading experience. Daisy The main character of the story and a very nice girl who is quite new to the school and likes art. She creates "The Alphabet Girls" for the girls. She is also protective of her disabled sister Lily. Almost all children study pharaohs and mummies in primary school and are fascinated by them. Before I read this book, I decided used to read another Beevis book. I guess to get the lay of the land, if you will! It irks me when a title of a book doesn’t truly match the story - The Sleepover had me thinking there was a single event that took place that this story would be built around, it is not that way, and we are never really given the full picture but rather broken up pieces. This left me feeling very unsatisfied. Chloe The main antagonist who is spoiled by her proud parents. She is a cruel, bossy bully who thinks she can have anything she wants. The mystery was good and I was definitely pleasantly surprised by the end reveal. Then Bill shows up, and Hannah is afraid for her life, but is there someone else she should also be fearful of that may be closer than she knows?
