Description

I’m relatively strong, but I needed to take frequent breaks when trimming the top of the hornbeam hedge especially. Once I’d adjusted the cutting head to trim the top flat, it became a bit of a struggle, to be honest. The only way round this would have been the inclusion of a decent front handle, preferably a “D” shaped one. Besides, it comes with an 18-volt lithium-ion battery, which gives you a runtime of about 2 hours 30 minutes. You can use the battery on other products in the Bosch home/garden 18-volt range. You will like the lightweight of this machine, making its manipulation as easy as ABC. This long-reach cutter has a telescopic pole that you can adjust in accordance with the height of the hedge you are trimming. The pole has a pivoting head and can reach up to 2.6 metres in height. That is why you can be sure of a ladder-free experience at all times for optimum safety. I was really impressed by just how easily this hedge trimmer sailed through even large diameter branches. To test it out properly I found a branch that was bigger than the maximum cutting capacity of 16 mm. Even with the branch wedged between the teeth, it still managed to chew through it!

I don’t have any concerns about this pole trimmer being underpowered. Coupled with the 2.5 Ah battery, I trimmed around 10 metres of hedge on the top and sides without any drop in power. It’s rated to trim 20 m² per charge, so you could do quite a lot of work before needing to down tools. Besides, the cord can easily get caught between the hedges, or you may accidentally cut through it with the machine. Either way, an electric hedge trimmer is not the most straightforward machine to use, and you will have to be extra careful to trim with it. What would really improve this trimmer though is an effective front handle. I found it difficult to hold the trimmer at an angle for more than a few minutes at a time, which became quite annoying. I believe this tool has a higher potential than is possible in its current design. If Bosch added a chunky “D” handle on the front section, it would be a much more formidable machine.

Why You Can Trust DIY Garden

The BU-KO Multifunction Garden Tool is a 5-in-1 machine for effective garden maintenance. It is powered by a heavy-duty 3HP motor, and that is why it is one of the most powerful trimmers in this review. It features a 52cc 2-stroke petrol engine with a fuel tank capacity of 1200ml. The Recommended team does not own a hedge big or bad enough to test the petrol-powered monster trimmers at the top of the market. For that we have taken professional gardener Ljudmil’s advice. The rest were tested on a mix of conifer, deciduous and thorny hedges found in most gardens. Because hedge-trimming is a strenuous job, we were looking for a clean, easy cut, good balance and light weight. Seeing as the motor is housed at the end of the pole behind the blade, a lot of the 3.6 kg weight is in front of your body. It’s top heavy and even when you take some of the strain with the shoulder strap, it takes a lot of goes to get comfortable.

This petrol long reach hedge trimmer & multi-functional garden tool comes with one extension pole, which makes it possible for you to trim hedges as tall as 3.4 metres without using a ladder. It is easy to assemble, and you will like its lightweight which makes manipulation a piece of cake. It comes with an extendable shaft, which you can extend to 2.9 metres, hence, you don’t need to worry about using a ladder which can be dangerous. If you own an expansive garden, you may find that an electric hedge trimmer is not the best choice. This is because the cord often limits the reach of the machine since the wire always has to be plugged into a power source during use. Tall Hedges: The best trimmer type for long hedges is an extended hedge trimmer. This will allow you to get to high areas without using any ladder. Small Hedges: A pair of hand shears can do the job if what you’ve gotten are small hedges. An electric hedge trimmer with a cutting blade of 45cm is another option, especially when you need to cut a limited hedge amount not far from your house. If you have a range of Bosch tools then you will know all about their batteries. This battery fits 100+ other Bosch machines , from hedge trimmers and chainsaws to combi drills and jig saws, in fact any other 18V tool that they make. At just 3.1kg, the Flymo’s lightness and fine balance is a big plus but the T-shaped crossbar for your supporting hand, supposed to make it more comfortable to use, is not really big enough to add any control. It does make the trimmer narrower and easier to store, though. It weighs just 5.1 kilograms, hence, you can manoeuvre it conveniently during operations. The Einhell GC-HH 9048 is a machine to trust for effective trimming. As the name suggests, electric pole hedge trimmers are trimming machines powered by electricity. They are usually characterized by a cable cord which one can connect to a power source to get the machine running. This type of trimmer is very lightweight.

It’s a shame that the battery system doesn’t come with a charge level indicator though. It would be easier to tell how long as single charge would last. I’m confident that you could tidy up a reasonable sized garden without needing a recharge though. There is an extra handle, which is adjustable so that you can position yourself properly for effective trimming. You can rotate the rear handle if you are working on high hedges, especially when you want to engage in horizontal or vertical cuts. With its 50-cm long reach strong telescopic handle, you can adjust to your required to get the most flawless outcome. I wouldn’t call this a heavy power tool because it weighs less than 4 kg, but it’s definitely unwieldy. When it’s retracted to its minimum length it’s fine to use though. I felt like I could trim and shape bushes and trees for hours! Besides, another standout feature of this machine is its rotating rear handle. You can adjust your cutting angle so that you can achieve ergonomic posture during operations.Cordless hedge trimmers: These are lightweight, quiet, environmentally friendly and have no need of petrol, engine maintenance or electricity plus there are no trailing cables to worry about. Without the cord or a petrol tank, you aren’t limited to where you can cut and although these were traditionally pretty pricey, recent advances have lowered their price. Expensive batteries and chargers however, can increase costs. Read our best cordless tools buyer's guide for more information on cordless tool systems. There are various kinds of hedges, and the type of trimmer you get should be able to cut through the unwanted branches effectively. With this expert guide, you can learn how to shop for a hedge trimmer that can make your hedges clean and neat 1. Electric Extendable Pole Hedge Trimmers

Delivered in one of Bosch’s familiar green boxes, I was immediately surprised at how small and light it felt, especially compared to some of the huge ones I’d also tested out. This continued with the overall feel of this pole trimmer. It’s what you’d expect from a Bosch tool. It feels solid and the plastic casing doesn’t have any movement unlike some trimmers I’ve tested out.

The Einhell GE-HH is one of the best telescopic long reach hedge trimmer (up to 2.5 m reach above your height) in our list of 2023. This is a powerful machine that you can use for maintaining hedges, bushes and shrubs on medium to large-sized gardens. The VonHaus 20V cordless extendable reach hedge trimmer is your best bet if you have a large garden with tall hedges. It comes with rich features that guarantee convenience and superb performance at all times. Whether you are a starter or pro, you can work confidently with the hope of getting the best result. My advice when trimming a hedge over 2m is definitely to get a platform,” Ljudmil advises, “but I do use extending hedge trimmers that reach up to 4m. They’re useful for the adjustable head which you can angle to 90 degrees, or 45 degrees if you want a pointed top to your hedge.” When you take the pole trimmer apart, the motor and blade section weigh more than the handle section (with the battery included). This tells you a lot about the balance of the machine. When you factor in a fully extended pole, most of the weight is really far forward.
