If your frosting is too thin, you can add additional powdered sugar. Keep adding the sugar until you have the consistency you’re looking for.

If you’re looking for a unique flourless dessert to make for your next party or get-together, this is one we highly recommend. Inside a heat-safe bowl (you could use the pot of your stand mixer if you own one), beat the whites together with the corn syrup, sugar, and water for one minute until everything is combined. Make sure the inside of the bowl where you are mixing is totally dry before adding the ingredients. For the remaining of our taste tests, we chose to use Kroger Private Selection French Style Butter because it is a less expensive option than President's Butter but we highly recommend using either when making your treats. Did you know that the real marshmallow was actually a root of a plant named “marsh mallow”? They resemble the store-bought marshmallows, but these roots are a bit tough instead of fluffy and soft like the ones you love. Nowadays, the marshmallows are usually made from sugar, water and gelatine that are then moulded into solid and soft shapes.

Are Rice Krispie Treats gluten-free?

For some reason, Kellogg's original Rice Krispie Treat recipe says there are 4 cups of mini marshmallows in a 10-ounce bag. We've weighed and measured this many times and there are definitely 6 cups in 10 ounces.

Set up a double boiler. You will need a pot with boiling water on top of where you can put the heat-safe bowl you were using in step 2. This will help the sugar dissolve into the egg whites, heating them without cooking them through. Step 4 Oatmeal raisin, macadamia nut, and double chocolate all taste great when paired with this marshmallow buttercream frosting. Plus, it’s an easy marshmallow recipe to make with the kids on a lazy weekend. Kraft Jet-Puffed Marshmallows are lighter than some other brands. If using them you'll need 40 marshmallows for a recipe calling for 10 ounces and 64 for a 16-ounce recipe. The puffs of toasted rice stayed crispy in the cereal treats and tasters all agreed that they have outstanding flavor. There was not a single treat that the 20 taste testers found to be truly bad, but everyone had an opinion about which treats tasted the best.

Never Miss A Recipe!

You can always use a different nut as an alternative, such as walnut or hazelnut. This will change the flavor a little, but trust us when we say the alternatives are just as good!

Not one single one of the 20 taste testers liked the addition of the whole marshmallows in the cereal treats. You can wrap the entire pan of treats or wrap individual treats depending on how you want to use them later. Your kids don’t like coconut? No worries. You can easily swap coconut flakes out for nuts like almonds or pecans or dried fruit like raisins or cranberries. Now we had our favorite butter and favorite cereal so the only thing left to decide on was the marshmallows. Because let’s be real..marshmallows are hard to measure. One cup of minis to you might be an entirely different thing to me…there’s just so much airspace, you know?

What size pan is needed for this recipe?

We found that every one of the 20 different taste testers preferred a Rice Krispie Treat made with salted butter.
