The current rating on a power adapter describes the amount that it can provide if gear demands it. Think of current as being “pulled’ from the power adapter by the Volca. The power adapter does not “push” current to the Volca. For this reason it’s ok to use a power adapter with a high current rating. When using a daisy chain cable you should look for a power adapter with a high current rating to ensure that it has enough power for several Volcas. I used a minikaosspad 2 for external effects with the signal from the 'Send Out' and returning through the 'Aux In'. It worked well, but it didn't really get wet enough for my tastes. This really is the perfect solution and eventually when I do get a mixer to bring in my future gear, this will remain the hub of my Korg universe. Ignore the naysayers, if you love your Volcas this is a no brainer and it feels worth every penny. There are RCA stereo line outs tied to a master volume control with LED VU meter plus a headphone out. You get built-in speakers, which Korg claims “deliver SPL levels that are even greater than the built-in speakers on previous units”, although, like those, these don’t really do the unit that much justice and really, what you should do is connect it up to your own external monitors.

The Volca Mix handles the power requirements for one to three Volcas which eliminates the need for batteries and additional power supplies. The necessary cables are included.

Just connect the included power cables from the Volca Mix to your Volca products, and you’re all set. MixerA stereo (for Volca FM or Volca Sample) and two mono (Volca Bass, Volca Beats, Volca Keys, or Volca audio channels are available with their own volume faders, mutes, 'Send' knobs for external singanl processing, and low-cut / hi-cut filter knobs in lieu of a parametric EQ. Again, the necessary cables are included. Featuring volume faders, crisp low and hi cut filters, and a set of master controls to really shape your mix and get even more potential out of the volca series.

If you're using USB power or if you have an audio interface connected to your system, you might need to use a USB audio isolator. There are many on the market. If using USB power, make sure that the USB audio isolator can provide enough power for your devices. The pictures below show typical USB audio isolators. However, the Gear4music extended warranty scheme provides an enhanced service, and is designed to offer a higher level of protection than many 'free' warranties offered by some retailers and manufacturers. Inclusion of MIDI in/out ports or USB sync - or, even better, both - would have made the Volca Mix a far more capable sync ‘hub’. Korg have clearly intended to keep things cheap and simple, but by doing so it feels like they’ve missed an opportunity to bring the Volca range into more of a ‘pro’ studio space.
