I loved the second half of the story; the pacing issues were resolved and all the monotonous set-up vanished in favor of actual action.

A spell to create blooming flowers and vines in their bedroom, another to make them swing high into the air, both girls had grown up with books which had the power to bring them so much joy. Joanna lives in their family home in Vermont and is now the sole protector of their magical books, each night she must reset the wards which stop outsiders from discovering where they are, thus meaning Joanna can never leave home for long. Performing for new ears and eyes felt as nerve-racking as climbing the stage of Madison Square Garden. If they are to survive, she and Joanna must unravel the secrets their parents kept hidden from them - secrets that span centuries and continents, and could cost them their lives .In this spellbinding debut novel, two estranged half-sisters tasked with guarding their family's library of magical books must work together to unravel a deadly secret at the heart of their collection - a tale of familial loyalty and betrayal, and the pursuit of magic and power. Especially in how their childhood has shaped their adult lives (namely their ambitions, motivations and approach to relationships) as well as the complicated feelings surrounding their long-time estrangement. It was a variated blue, almost white where it met the snowy horizon but deepening as Esther’s eye followed it upward: from robin’s egg to cerulean to a calm, luminous azure.

Ink Blood Sister Scribe - Goodreads Shelby’s review of Ink Blood Sister Scribe - Goodreads

The characters were interesting, although a few of the characters felt a bit flat and didn't have much growth. It seems like fun at first, but things soon take a dangerous turn in this gripping and unusual tale of supernatural horror. Part caper, part love letter to books, with a slice of gothic creepiness, it was just the read I needed. Books that let a person walk through walls or manipulate the elements--books of magic that half-sisters Joanna and Esther have been raised to revere and protect. Un fantasy libroso/stregonesco che interpreta a suo modo quello che consideriamo il "potere" di una biblioteca, con libri raccolti, tramandati, custoditi e inseguiti nei secoli.

Ink Blood Sister Scribe by Emma Torzs - BookBrowse Review of Ink Blood Sister Scribe by Emma Torzs - BookBrowse

Shucked from her plane layers, Pearl was tall and tough, with a pile of sun-streaked hair wadded into a precarious knot that seemed in danger of sliding off her head. The group barely trusts each other and yet they feel need to work together to make it out of their situations alive.Maybe the first half (roughly) isn't that pacey however by the end of that half I felt I had some idea about some parts of the story. Rather than dramatic surprises and mind-blowing reveals, it felt more as though the plot of this story was a picture slowly coming into focus.

Ink Blood Sister Scribe: A spellbinding, edge-of your seat

Esther slipped a hand beneath the hem of Pearl’s sweater, fingers finding the smooth dip of her waist as Pearl nudged one of her long legs between Esther’s thighs. This book I picked for the title I think - it just grabbed me and I thought it would be interesting. Törzs does a fantastic job creating a gripping and suspenseful story that keeps readers on their toes and wanting more. And I've always said that I'd rather read a well-written and obvious twist than a shocking one that feels out of nowhere. They’d both been hidden in the many layers required to board the plane—wool hat, huge orange parka, gloves, clompy insulated boots, dark-lensed goggles pushed up on their heads—and Esther had gotten only the briefest impression of sparkly eyes and a full-throated laugh before the group was ushered onto the plane and she and Pearl were seated on opposite ends of the cargo hold. Elsewhere, Joanna Kalotay steadfastly guards a small collection of spellbooks of her own, barely leaving home and nightly setting protection charms to prevent detection. And I feel like this is supposed to be a big reveal, but also there weren't enough clues that I could have picked up on it beforehand. I think the sister relationship and the daughter/mother relationship were the strongest here, but still pretty weak overall.
