Description

If your cat has fleas, there’s every chance that their bedding and your home surfaces have flea eggs on them. As these mature into adult fleas, the cycle of infestation continues. So, as you treat your cat for fleas, you’ll need to also treat surfaces, like your cat’s bed, carpets, soft furnishings, and anywhere else that your cat may sleep or hang out on a regular basis.

The first is that the Frontline Spray does not directly treat all life stages of the flea (eggs and larvae) as it does not contain an insect growth regulator ingredient. This means that after spraying a cat with an active flea infestation, more fleas are likely to appear a couple weeks later. This will take longer for an active infestation of the home to get under control and extra diligence should be taken toward treating the home environment. Frontline Spray for cats is considered waterproof, but the manufacturer does recommend waiting 48 hours before bathing, and to use a soap-free shampoo. Often, persistent feline acne is considered to be related to an allergy or immune response. The frustrating part of it is that it is often very difficult to determine the allergen or allergens causing it, or impossible to remove the allergen if it is environmental. Removal of plastic food and water bowls and replacing them with metal or ceramic bowls is the most common recommendation, but that was probably discussed with you some time ago, perhaps still leaving the underlying cause unknown. When considering use of either the Frontline Spray or the Frontline spot-on products, it’s important to understand the advantages and disadvantages of each.

How does Frontline Flea Spray work?

Following application of any Frontline product, it’s important to note that because fipronil causes neurologic overexcitement in the flea prior to killing it, more fleas may become visible and active following application of the product. While Frontline products should never be ingested, fipronil generally appears to have a low potential for toxicity both topically and even if accidentally ingested. This does mean that eggs and larvae may still develop into adult fleas, so it may be possible to see new adults emerge after a couple of weeks of initially killing the original adult flea infestation. As with any flea control product, wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after use. You and your cat will both be happier once those pesky fleas are banished from sharing your home. If you’ve got a favorite flea spray product, let us know in the comments below. We’d love to hear from you.

The main difference between Frontline Spot-On and Frontline Plus is that Frontline Plus contains an additional active ingredient, (S)-methoprene, which prevents flea eggs and larvae from developing. This means that Frontline Combo can provide more comprehensive protection against fleas, as it can help to break the flea lifecycle. IF ON SKIN OR CLOTHING: Take off contaminated clothing. Rinse skin immediately with plenty of water for 15-20 minutes. Call a poison control center or doctor for treatment advice. The manufacturer recommends applying the spray from a distance of 10 to 20 centimeters (about 4 to 8 inches). The spray should be applied against the lay of the coat so that the spray can be worked down toward the skin more effectively. Always use medications as directed. The spray should be used at a distance of approximately 10-20cm to spray the entire of your pet but take special care to avoid their eyes. All of the fur or hair should be dampened by the solution and ruffling the animal afterwards is recommended to ensure the solution works its way down to the skin. It’s important to note here that the spray cannot be used in a single application spot at the base of the head the way the spot-on products can be used. Spot-on products have a carrier agent that allow the drug to spread throughout the oils of the coat over about 18 to 24 hours. The spray must be used more liberally across the entire coat and body to be effective.Important: Do not use Frontline flea spray on rabbits as this could cause severe side effects or even death. Frontline Spray solution comes as either a pump action spray bottle or a trigger spray bottle (dependent on the bottle size). How does Frontline Flea Spray work?

Application is also generally messier, requiring gloves and possibly keeping a kitty that has had the spray recently applied in a confined area like a bathroom for at least 24 hours until the spray fully dries to prevent it from ending up on upholstery and furniture. It is a violation of Federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling. TO PREVENT HARM TO YOU AND YOUR PET, READ ENTIRE LABEL AND ATTACHED DIRECTIONS BEFORE EACH USE. Follow all directions and precautionary statements carefully. Use only on dogs and cats. Do not use on rabbits. Do not use on any other animals. Do not get this product in your pet’s eyes or mouth. Apply spray mist until animal’s hair is damp to thoroughly wet. Approximately 1 to 2 pumps per pound of the animal’s body weight will be required. Pets with long or dense coats will require the higher rate. When treating your pet’s head or when treating small animals, spray the solution onto gloved hands and then rub the product in, rather than spraying directly. Once the product has been applied, make sure to allow it to dry naturally in a well-ventilated area and don’t touch or handle your pet until it’s all dry.

Frontline Spray: Effective Flea and Tick Treatment for Dogs and Cats

IF INHALED: Move person to fresh air. If person is not breathing, call 911 or an ambulance, then give artificial respiration, preferably mouth-to-mouth if possible. Call a poison control center or doctor for further treatment advice. Frontline Tri-Act Spot-On usually dries within 2-4 hours. The active ingredients in Frontline Tri-Act Spot-On, fipronil and permethrin, are both fast-acting and the product dries within 2-4 hours of application. However, it is still important to avoid bathing your pet for at least 48 hours after application. It’s also important to consider which method will suit your cat’s temperament best. “Choose whatever will be the least stress for you both,” Reay says. “If your pet easily takes tablets in food, then choose those, otherwise go for a spot on and use food or treats as a distraction while it’s applied. The calmer you are, the more you’ll help to reassure your pet.”

Apply Against Hair Growth: Spray the solution against the lay of the hair, ensuring the entire coat is dampened. Have the product container or label with you when calling a poison control center or doctor, or going for treatment. For external use only. May cause severe eye irritation. Take care not to spray in the animal’s eyes or facial area. Do not use on kittens and puppies under 8 weeks. Individual sensitivities, while rare, may occur after using any pesticide product for pets. If signs persist, or become more severe, consult a veterinarian immediately. Certain medications can interact with pesticides. Consult a veterinarian before using this product on medicated, debilitated, aged, pregnant or nursing animals.Frontline Spray is also far more cost-effective, especially since it can be used on both dogs and cats in a multiple pet household. Ventilated Area: Make sure your pet dries in a well-ventilated room. Keep away from heat sources for at least 30 minutes after application. Ruffle the Coat: Particularly for long-haired pets, ruffle the coat to allow the product to penetrate to the skin level. Dogs and Cats: Depending on the length of the hair, apply 3 to 6 ml per kg of body weight. This translates to 2 to 4 pump applications for the 250 ml and 500 ml bottles. This also presents a challenge for multiple cat households where lots of co-grooming occurs. Compared to the spot-on, it would be even more important to separate housemate kitties for up to 24 hours after application to allow the product to fully dry.
