Step 7: After finding 5 control points, tap on the disk icon on the bottom left to save the calibration profile. Now all photos from that camera will be stitched correctly in Theta Z1 Stitcher. Before calibration (left) and after calibration (right) For a video shot while walking around the subject, you can view the subject from various directions like a frame-by-frame video. All information to do with camera design and outlook, video properties, photo properties, shooting modes, battery performance, and many more will be discussed in this post. HDR-DNG: this takes multiple shots and merges them into an HDR photo in Raw. It can merge up to 9 shots, at 1EV intervals. The result is a single HDR Raw file. This feature has deghosting, and can be used even when there is movement.

Still image, Video: Auto, outdoor, shade, cloudy, incandescent lamp 1, incandescent lamp 2, daylight color fluorescent lamp, natural white fluorescent lamp, white fluorescent lamp, light bulb color fluorescent lamp,Color temperature(2500K – 10000K) *3 A third way to process the Z1’s DNG photos is through the Theta Z1 Stitcher app and the Theta DNG Transfer app. Both were made by Yoichi Hirota (developer of the Mi Sphere Converter and other apps), and both apps are currently available in beta for Android. iOS versions may be possible, depending on demand. Apart from controlling the camera via the App, you can also use your phone to live-preview what you are recording. The Theta Z1’s key feature is its large 1-inch sensors, which are around 4.3x larger than the 1/2.3 inch sensors typically used in consumer 360 cameras. The Z1’s sensor is actually more than half the size of a Micro Four Thirds sensor, and as much as 1/3 the size of an APS-C size sensor. The Z1 was able to eliminate almost all the movement and keep the horizon fairly level. However, the footage still looked a bit wobbly. Similar videos shot with the GoPro Max and the Insta360 One X were much stabler. To hear the spatial audio effect, you’ll need earphones. You’ll notice that the sound changes as you rotate the video.

Comparing audio from both cameras, I found out that GoPro Max performs better in terms of capturing clear audio. Ricoh stated that the Theta Z1 has a new lens design and has an improved IR Cut filter to reduce ghosts, flares, and purple fringing. See sample photos and image quality analysis below. Ricoh also has several apps for laptops, including its Basic app (Windows and Mac) which is only for photos, a File Transfer app (Mac), a Movie Converter app (Windows and Mac), and an Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic CC plugin. The Basic app and Movie Converter apps are just that, and don’t allow you to edit the photos or videos in any way. Drag the stitched video over the Theta Movie Converter icon. The app will generate a new video file with spatial audio, and with a .mov extension. If you upload this video directly to YouTube, it will have spatial audio. A big advantage here is that you can take the panoramic photo without having to move your camera along. Photo adjustment settings available for both cameraAuto, Manual (Shutter 1/8000s-120s, ISO 100-3200), Shutter Priority (1/8000s-2s), ISO Priority (100-3200) If you are a heavy user, you might require a camera with enough storage capacity for your recordings. But for me, I see 19GB as enough especially since I use the Z1 for capturing still images only. Lens aperture refers to the level of openness that the lens can go to allow light to enter into the lens and image sensor. Theta Z1 has a maximum photo resolution of 23MP which is impressive enough for 360 photos. The camera also takes 22.6MP JPEG photos. The Theta Z1 has four microphones for recording audio in what Ricoh calls Spatial Audio. The Max has six microphones dotted on the camera to offer spherical stereo audio.

I’ve been inundated with questions about which camera is the best for virtual tours. The demand for virtual tours for real estate, museums, offices and a multitude of other businesses has exploded. You really need to test Z1 camera in a field. It comes with all this crap that also present in their V model with recording GPS position with precision. To next" and "To previous" can now be selected from the "Display" when the spherical image is displayed. I don’t know yet. I’m testing it. Theta Z1 does run on Android OS so in theory the USB Type C can be used to connect and save files directly to external storage with the right plugin. As I have mentioned before, you need to beware of ghosting which will faintly appear when you use HDR where moving people are involved. The Theta Z1 can not only shoot in DNG Raw mode but Ricoh has created a special plug-in for Adobe Lightroom Classic called Ricoh Stitcher, which for the first time will enable users to edit photos in Lightroom and then stitch them on export, with adjustments for zenith, horizon, and stitching distance. See workflow below.

Still image: RAW (DNG) *2, JPEG (Exif Ver. 2.3), Video:MP4(Video: MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, Audio: AAC-LC(monaural)+Linear PCM(4ch Spacial audio)), Live Streaming : Video:H.264, Audio: Linear PCM(4ch)Choosing between these cameras will depend on which shooting mode suits you in your adventures and virtual tours. The Ricoh Stitcher plugin works with Lightroom Classic CC (not Lightroom CC), and works by using Ricoh Stitcher for roundtrip editing. The benefit of this workflow is that it allows the user greater flexibility in editing the photos in Lightroom and avoids seams in editing. Ordinarily, applying edits such as adjusting highlights, clarity or dehaze will result in a seam between the left edge and right edge of the 360 photo. With this workflow, the stitching is applied after the edits, thus reducing the possibility of a seam in the stitched photo, compared to a photo that is stitched first and then edited afterward. The Theta Z1’s video is completely stabilized in all three axes, which makes the video appear level regardless of the camera’s direction. Not only does this make the Theta’s video smoother, but when the Theta Z1 is attached to a monopod, it can be made to appear as an invisible third person view camera. To see a stabilization comparison, see video quality below.
