It would be such a shame to disregard these books because of helicopter parenting. I know friends who started to read these books aged 9/10. Did they grow up to be psychotic maniacs? NO. They are all well rounded human beings studying at university. Pair with something nonfiction about the topics Drew discusses. Options include: The Power Worshippers by Katherine Stewart or Everything You Love Will Burn by Vegas Tenhold. Following the last book in the CHERUB series, it was revealed that a trilogy would be released starting from August 2011 that will focus on a new set of CHERUB agents centred upon Ryan Sharma and also involve an sixteen year old Lauren Adams. The first book will be called People's Republic. Although the book has been given many positive critiques, there are some minor issues with the book. There seems to be some places where 'heavy' swear words are being uses and the use of alcohol and cigarettes. These things can be disturbing for younger readers as it can negatively influence them especially since kids are doing these actions. Also, at times, minor information as well as details were taking over particular parts of the novel which can be quite boring for readers as it will disinterest them. Finally, there are some places where suspense and 'punch' is not quite written in detail which doesn't quite accentuate the meaningfulness of a particular action. a b c d Zorrilla, Mónica Marie (April 28, 2021). "Noah Centineo to Headline Netflix Espionage Series from 'The Rookie' Creator Alexi Hawley". Variety . Retrieved October 3, 2022.

It is over a decade since the end of the Vietnam War in 1987 and in the seemingly idyllic South Californian town of Rancho Santa Elena, there are dark, corrupt, racist and sinister undercurrents, intent on maintaining the existing white power structures. Detective Ben Wade saves a poisoned baby, where the family dog is missing. Vietnamese refugees Bao Phan, his wife Ai and daughter, Linh, have managed to survive and thrive, owning and running their store despite the challenges that have come their way. Bao finds a dog with its throat cut in the alley and a message meant to intimidate and spread fear pushed into its mouth, Ben investigates. Ben's girlfriend, Natasha Betencourt, is a medical examiner, she is at the scene of a homicide with Detective Joseph Vanek, the murdered victim is a wealthy white real estate developer, Walter Brennan. The cases have some curious connections such as red thread, and all leads point to a group of violent young neo-nazis, but they struggle to find any proof. The eponymous recruit, is the unhappy and vulnerable 15 year old Jacob Clay, desperately needing something to believe in and to belong.Drew does a great job of painting 1987 Southern California. This small, middle class community doesn’t have a crime problem. In fact, people move here to escape the crime of the big cities. Ben Wade was one of those people. But still, there’s a Vietnamese sub-community that isn’t welcome by all. “This kind of thing didn’t happen until they got here.” The parallels to today are frightening. DON'T BE THAT PARENT, DON'T BE NAIVE, THESE BOOKS WILL GET THEM READING EVEN IF THEY HAVE NEVER READ A WORD IN THEIR LIFE.

I was trying to dramatize in The Recruit: that the aftermath of the Vietnam War sparked a new white supremacy movement, one that coalesced in the 1980s around the fledgling Internet and ultimately found legitimacy as a mainstream political movement in the presidency of Donald Trump." I received this book as an Advance Reader Copy from Netgalley & Random House in exchange for an objective review. Do you love to read?? Visit netgalley.com and start reviewing books today!! Something new i learn't from the book is that adults shouldn't doubt kids. Sure, we may not be as smart as you guys, or have the same rights as you do. But we do have feelings, AND BRAINS!!! And some of our rights are actually ok. For example, it may be funny or cute if a three year old goes running down the street naked. AND we don't get in trouble! How would you think the consequences would look like if - i dunno - a 22 yr old did that!?!? Overall, this book was intriguing. It is a reminder of the oppression experienced by many legal immigrants to our country as well as the resistance of people who cannot accept change, diversity, acceptance, appreciation for fellow human beings because of preconceived notion or family bigotry. It wasn't gripping or scary... we barely knew the bad guys. I like stories with detail. With the twists and turns that have you on the edge of your seat. This wasn't the case at all. There wasn't any guessing or suspects or covert stakeouts with close calls. James did practically nothing and it all sort of fell in his lap.

Book Summary

Most of the time when a criminal suspects someone is a spy it is usually an adult. So what if the spies weren’t adults, instead they were teens. These teens would set up secret surveillance cameras and spy equipment around someone’s house. For James Choke this is regular life. James works for the secret agency called Cherub. Set in California in the late 1980s, the story is about 'an interstate conspiracy of hate to terrorize and kill minorities.' The story shows that the roots of such racism began shortly after the Vietnam War and found legitimacy under Donald Trump's political agenda unfortunately. The rest of the crew is awesome as well. Kyle, Bruce, Amy, Lauren, Connor, Gabrielle, Kerry, Shakeel, Mo and Ewart are the best! They're all so funny and so dedicated to their work. Is it me or you want to hug everyone in this book? Especially Ewart, he is literally the best.
