Description

The Thom Bell Sessions (internationally titled as The Thom Bell Sessions '77) is an EP recorded by Elton John in the second half of 1977, but was not released by MCA Records until June 1979. It was followed by You Are Everything, Betcha By Golly Wow, I’m Stone in Love With You and Break Up to Make Up, all reaching the Top 10, often using the plangent sound of the electric sitar (played by the session guitarist Bobby Eli) as a lead instrument. Bell was born on January 26, 1943 in Kingston, Jamaica, [3] to Anna and Leroy Bell, and brought to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the age of four by his parents, according to an interview Bell gave to Terry Gross on NPR's Fresh Air. [4] [5] [6] Both of Bell's parents were native Jamaicans. [7] [8] Thomas Bedward Burke, Bell's maternal grandfather, was born in Kingston, Jamaica. [9] [10] In March 2019, it was reported that Paramount Pictures was pressuring director Dexter Fletcher and producer Matthew Vaughn to cut a sex scene between Taron Egerton and Richard Madden, so that the film could receive a PG-13 rating in the United States, as influenced by the financial success of Bohemian Rhapsody the year prior. [27] Fletcher denied the reports, saying that the movie "has and always will be the no holds barred, musical fantasy that Paramount and producers passionately support and believe in" and said the allegations were "nothing but rumours". At the same time, of course, it's certainly arguable that this methodology is no longer fit for purpose. If a classic song suddenly outdoes its original position from decades earlier via a random burst of streaming thanks to briefly raised visibility (use in an advert, a film, some viral thing, the ubiquity of festive favourites, etc.), causing its unique chart history to get eclipsed or at least 'muddied', do we want that? I'm Still Standing" was not written while Elton was in rehab, nor was the music video filmed after he had left: the song was recorded in 1982, and the song and the video were released a year later. The Making of The Complete Thom Bell Sessions - Elton John

Elton is shown to have dated a landlady named Arabella, but he actually dated a secretary named Linda Hannon (née Woodrow) for two years, and was engaged to her in 1969. John ended up sinking into a suicidal depression due to stress faced with the prospect of living a domestic life in the suburbs, and attempted to kill himself in his kitchen from inert gas asphyxiation, but failed to do so (leaving the kitchen windows open, and being found by Bernie Taupin). Less than a month before the wedding, John suddenly broke off their engagement on the advice of Long John Baldry. Elton and Taupin ended up writing the song " Someone Saved My Life Tonight" based on the failed engagement and Baldry's advice. [86] [81] Hannon revealed her disappointment for not being mentioned in the film. [87] In 1972, Bell agreed to produce The Spinners for Atlantic Records. [2] The group, who had long been with Motown Records, had joined Atlantic after failing to get the attention they wanted. It was the start of a successful collaboration that lasted for seven years and eight original albums. Bell revitalized the group, producing five gold albums that included chart success with singles such as " I'll Be Around", " Could It Be I'm Falling in Love", " Games People Play", and " The Rubberband Man". [14] In 1974, he was awarded a Grammy for Best Producer of the Year. [15] Greene, Andy (22 August 2018). "Nigel Olsson Reflects on 50 Years of Playing Drums for Elton John". Rolling Stone.Reginald Dwight grows up in 1950s Britain, raised by his unaffectionate mother, Sheila, and his more loving grandmother Ivy. Reginald is interested in music and hopes to perform for his father, Stanley, who takes no interest in his son (" I Want Love"). For me at least, that should be the way to list things – it's the same as the Guinness British Hit Singles books' method, which was ideal: remixes, rerecordings and straight reissues got separate listings. They used to list all re-entries separately as well, but dropped that circa 2000 for space reasons, which was fair enough. Though not noted on the CD, the mixes of "Are You Ready for Love," "Mama Can't Buy You Love" and "Three Way Love Affair" are not the Elton and Clive Frank remixes from 1979, but the original 1977 Thom Bell mixes. "Are You Ready for Love," for example, now includes Bobby Smith and John Edwards of The Spinners singing the second verse instead of Elton, among other more subtle differences. The original EP remixes of the songs would later re-surface on the 'CD2' edition of Elton's 1992 single for " The Last Song"; [4] an edited version of the remix of "Are You Ready for Love" would be re-released as a single in 2003, and went on to hit #1 on the UK and US Dance charts. In April 2018, Taron Egerton was officially cast to play the musician in the film. Egerton had previously appeared with John in the 2017 film Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and Egerton, as Johnny the Gorilla, sang John's song " I'm Still Standing" in the 2016 animated film Sing. In June, the role of Bernie Taupin was given to Jamie Bell. [15] In July, Richard Madden entered negotiations to play John Reid, and Bryce Dallas Howard was cast to play John's mother. [16] [17] Gemma Jones was announced as being cast in the film in October. [18] Filming [ edit ] World War II Draft Cards Young Men, 1940-1947 [database on-line], Leroy Bell".
