The Low End is somewhat more present in the mix, though still not raised above neutral levels. It also seems to have a more textured bass. I should also mention that the wire for these headphones are detachable. While I'm not even personally close to needing to replace the wire, that would be an option for you in case it gets damaged for whatever reason. The wire defaults to a 1/8″ plug, but it also comes with an adapter to convert it to 1/4″ which you would likely need if you're plugging it into an audio interface such as the Scarlett 2i2. Something to note is that the wire is incredibly long. It's easily over 2 meters long. This is great if your studio desk is cluttered like mine is, but I can imagine this would be a pain if you're walking around with these headphones. Again, if you’re someone that’s constantly pulling out cords because they aren’t long enough (or you twist your head because your cat thinks everything’s a toy or a scratching post) then this is going to be a very real selling point all on its own. KRK KNS 8404: The Verdict Here’s my simplified answer: no, it won’t totally replace actual studio monitors – but it’s good enough to start with.

The German-made DT 770 PRO reconciles luxury with affordability. It features hard plastic cups, a wideheadbandwith metal parts, and large velourear pads. Why? Because those songs really shine when the bass is pumping loud. Since the low end on the KNS 8400 is slightly on the low side, you might be tempted to boost those frequencies up really high until you get that low-end rumble – which, of course, will just lead your song into having a very uneven bass response. But then again, this is the case with most studio headphones in general, and not just the KNS 8400. Build Quality and ComfortThe overall fit iscomfortable and provides good isolation. Add to that the lightweight design and you can easily sport these headphones for long hours of mixing andmonitoring. These headphones featurededicated volume control on a separate extension cable, which is a unique and handy add-on. This lightness is, for me, the biggest asset of the KNS8400 – unlike other monitoring headphones that I use, I can have these on my head for hours because they’re just so comfortable! Literally, I had these on for the duration of my entire production session, and after a while they just seemed to disappear, as if I wasn’t wearing anything at all.

They had all the famous budget-friendly good quality headphones like the AKG's and Shure's [can't remember model numbers; you know the ones I'm talking about], but the KRK brand name stood out for me. I already have decent monitor speakers [M-Audio Deluxe 5a], but the KRK monitors always looked really cool, and I heard them at a friends house and they sounded fantastic. I'd never heard of KRK making headphones, so they really stood out for me, with the yellow KRK logo and the promise of good sound at a low price [150 Canadian on sale; that's 110 USD]. Here’s something you should note though: the low-end leaves a little more to be desired. While the bass itself is smooth and tight and there's still a thump, frequencies below 100 Hz are a little soft, and slight changes within the 40-70 Hz frequency range is actually quite difficult to notice. This is not particularly the fault of this particular model, but with most studio headphones in general: they try to make the sound response as flat as possible. TheShureSRH1540 is an amalgam of clever design, detail-oriented workmanship, and super-modern materials. Utilizing the latest in memory foam technology ensures class leading performance in both reproduction and isolation. Sound: The headphones I currently own are the NAD HP50 and AKG K371 [edit: AKG K167]. I loved the sound of both when they were new, but both now have worn or 3rd-party earpads that mess up the sound (no bass, over-emphasized treble). For reference, I listen to my well-set-up ProAc 1SC speakers allied with a small subwoofer to get clean bass down to around 35hz. I'm not a bass head and find that many headphones over-emphasize the bass, so take that into consideration. I should also emphasize that I've never heard the KNS 8400, so I can't compare their sound to the 8402 based on my own experience.Voiced to remain true to the character of KRK's class leading studio monitors, developed with 25 years of years of experience in studio sound. The bad news is it takes a lot of research to find the perfect headset within your means. No sweat. We’ve got you covered.

Comfort: Outstanding. There's really nothing more to say. These things are as comfortable as my old Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro's, which were the most comfortable headphone I've used. There were some complaints about the headband on the 8400, which uses two separate pads which some people complained could cause pressure points. On my head, at least, this simpy is not an issue with the similarly-designed 8402 headband.. Clamping for is just right, the seal is excellent, and the headphones don't seem sensitive to placement on one's head. I wear glasses and they seem to have no effect on the sound quality. They aren’t perfect, however. If you’re someone that wants their stuff to constantly change to best possible fit a new look, then the 8402 may not be the one for you. They ship with a hard-shell case, a Velcro cable tie, two cables (1.4m straight and 5m coiled), as well as 3.5 and 6.35 mm adapters. The ATH-M50x can work well forrecording vocalsas it sounds warm and balanced with minimal sound leakage. These no-frills cans may look utilitarian, but they are incrediblydurableand comfy. They ship with a carry pouch, adetachable cable, and a ¼ inch adapter. MusicRadar verdict: KRK’s headphones continue to offer great sonics and excellent value. Each model is best suited to different tasks, but the added comfort and overall fidelity of the KNS 8402 make it our preferred choice. KRK KNS Series headphones: Specifications
