Corax finally gets his will when the Raven Guard assault the Perfect Fortress of the Emperor's Children in the final chapter, following on from scenes within the same chapter that would have made for a pretty good ending to the book already. The story begins approximately 3 months after the Drop Site Massacre, with the unexpected rescue of Corax and the remnants of his Legion (at less than 5% strength) from Istvaan V.It talks of the leader of the Raven Guard, and is the first book to really focus itself around the Raven Guard. His Warhammer 40,000 repertoire further includes the Path of the Eldar series, the Horus Heresy audio dramas Raven's Flight and Honour to the Dead, and a multiplicity of short stories. While on Terra there are many references to previous books as well as other tidbits that I'm sure the later books will answer.

As for myself, I am happy I gave it another shot instead of declaring "Nevermore" and turning my back on the Raven Guard plotline. The dialogue is far better written than in McNeill's (apparently) more popular books, and while Thorpe simply does not have the verbal artistry of Dembski-Bowden (sp? Corvus Corax looks to rebuild his legion fast against his brother Horus, who has turned more of their brothers against Corax, his other loyal brothers, and their father, The Emperor of Mankind.Despite some losses Corax is able to command his forces into the right spots at the right time to overload the Labyrinth's randomly-changing mechanism, jamming it open so the Primarch Project can be reached. And while this story is obviously a sequel on Raven's Flight, it is at the same time a sequel on Legion.
