The term “dagashi” in Japan is a fusion of two components: “daga,” derived from the Japanese character “駄,” signifying “cheap” or “low-quality,” often connoting something of reduced worth or quality, and “kashi,” from “菓子,” which denotes “sweets” or “confections” in Japanese, encompassing various sweet treats. When these, “daga” and “kashi,” are combined, they give rise to the term “dagashi,” essentially translating to “cheap sweets” or “affordable confectionery.” Kokonotsu's surname Shikada means "deer, venison" (鹿) ( shika) and "field, rice paddy" (田) ( ta/ da).

I rated it 10 in enjoyment because I like this kind of animes and enjoyed the humor and stories about candy origins. At first, Dagashi Kashi might seem a bit plotless or plain. You're actually correct; there's actually no major plot in this and it is plain. There's little to no romance and just looking at it, all that's left is the humour. But this is not what this anime is aiming for. Dagashi Kashi wants it's Do you enjoy DIY candy kits? They’re a popular activity in Japan, and they’re also one of many goodies you can get in their bundle. These kits are an excellent choice for kids who want to experience Japan’s culture. Although the comedy revolves around traditional Japanese candy that may deter or confuse some people, it still has substance in comedy and relatablity. Candy has always been

With each crate from this brand, you can expect a vast selection of sweets you’ll only find in Japanese convenience stores. Traditional candies, such as umaibo are a must-have for candy enthusiasts. My only complaint for this series would be TOO much fanservice in the first episodes. I mean, you're 2 episodes in and you already see Hotaru and Saya in one bath.Dagashi Kashi is a manga series by Kotoyama, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday from 2014 to 2018 and compiled into 11 volumes. Dagashi Kashi is one of those anime that punches the viewers in the nostalgia. Unlike many of the other anime which also produce down this like, I'll confidently say that the creativity behind Dagashi Kashi is through the roof.

New Job as the Plot Demands: Kokonotsu's father Yo is usually seen working different odd jobs in each of his appearance when he's not at the store or goofing off, to generate additional income since dagashi-selling on its own isn't profitable enough. Or so he claims. Low price - each piece should retail between 10 and 200 yen, a reasonable amount for a school child Drunk on Milk: Hotaru somehow manages to get drunk on "Namaiki Beer", a non-alcoholic drink that only looks like beer which Kokonotsu mentions tastes like apple or pineapple juice. Could be this trope or Fake High, depending on whether she knew it doesn't actually have alcohol. He then went to Café Endō to tell Tō Endō and Saya Endō about a pretty girl with a weird love of dagashi which makes Saya anxious. At the moment when he requested for another cup, Saya taunted him that her coffee is bad and she is willing to listen more of his story; he then drank the entire cup and he wanted to have more coffee as long as it's made by herself. [8] [6] Relationships [ ] Saya Endō [ ] Atsushi Abe (Kokonotsu's Japanese voice actor) voiced Moritaka Mashiro of Bakuman who became an actual mangaka and he had his own anime by the end of the series run. Coincidentally Mashiro's main rival, Eiji Niizuma used to live in the countryside before he moved to Tokyo to continue his job as a mangaka. Both of them started to draw manga with Mashiro at 14 years old while Niizuma being 15 years old.

1. うまい棒 (Umaibou)

is part of a famous family owned sweet company. She wants Kokonotsu’s father to join and he only agrees on the condition that Kokonotsu can take over his own shop. Thus, we got Hotaru and her ever daring tactics to get Kokonotsu for taking the shop. When he and Yō are about to fight, Hotaru Shidare came in the shop and Kokonotsu was mesmerized by her at first sight. Kokonotsu then tells Yō that there's a customer although his father left him. Dagashi is comparable to the American “penny candy” of the 1950s and 1960s, which was a staple of American candy shops at the time. Similarly, during the height of their popularity in the same decades, specialty stores called dagashiya were a popular place for kids to stop after school to buy dagashi, small toys, and maybe even play some arcade games. These stores have declined over the past few decades in favor of convenience stores that sell more than just dagashi. However, there are still several dagashiya in Japan, and people enjoy the sense of childhood nostalgia they bring. Family Business: The candy shop's been in Kokonotsu's family for generations and his dad really wants him to inherit it. business: a candy store. Hotaru wants Kokonotsu's father to work for her family's candy company, and he agrees as long as she is able to convince Kokonotsu to take over the store. This makes Hotaru begin to harass Kokonotsu about candy all the time and allows the anime to become a Japanese candy commercial. Honestly, I had forgotten about the premise of the series because they hardly ever mention it again in favor of talking about candy all the time (can you tell how annoyed I am that I was roped into watching an anime that is literally just about candy?).

The show is advertising Japanese sweets.". I mean... it is called *Dagashi* (sweets) Kashi, so the talk about sweets and their history is to be expected, isn't it? The other great aspect about the show is the characters. Ever get tired of shows that have this massive list of characters that it makes it

Kokonotsu is a relatively plain boy with a reactive personality, usually playing the straight man to Hotaru Shidare and Yō Shikada's (Kokonotsu's father) strange activities. Unlike the rest of the characters, his personality barely stands out. Aware of this, he (along with Tō Endō) strives to become popular. Although he is very ambitious about becoming a manga artist, he is sensitive about his image being associated with 'otakus'. On the outside, he is generally indifferent towards dagashi but actually likes them a lot, most likely a result of growing up in a candy store with his dagashi-fanatic father. Subsequently, he is easily dragged along with the flow of Hotaru and his fathers discussions and games. Proper Tights with a Skirt: Hotaru almost always wears tights, so she can make her dress flutter around with impunity. An all-around Japanese experience; from learning about the treats to enjoying them in the most authentic way possible at home. And now most of you guys reading this review must wonder why I still give it a 6, and that is because Dagashi Kashi is by no means a bad show! In fact, it was one of the more enjoyable ones this season! Sure, since a lot of the jokes are about Japanese candy, and not a lot of you people are Japanese, you might think the jokes are incredibly hit or miss. But the extremely colorful and dynamic characters more than makes up for it! Dagashi Kashi is definitely an enjoyment > quality type of anime.
