Should you suffer an accident, POC wants to ensure rescue services can reach you in a timely fashion. There’s an NFC chip which provides access to your medical ID from the twICEme app – important if you’re not conscious. Setting up is a bit of a faff, but so worth it. This helmet has earned a 5-star safety rating from the influential Virginia Tech, which researches helmets with a view to reducing concussions.

In our original review, we listed the limited ventilation as our main con. Considering you’re probably wearing this helmet because you’re fashion-minded, having sweaty hair when you get to your destination is less than ideal. Riding a bike without a helmet requires a balance between fun and danger. Thousand wants to change this balance by offering helmets with greater functionality. After the loss of her friend in a cycling-related accident, Gloria decided that something needs to change. She collaborated with her friends and started Thousand Helmets – a company that makes helmets that you actually want to wear. Thousand Heritage is the cheaper and more basic model that’s certified both for cycling and for skateboarding. These helmets are characterized by simple design, excellent ventilation, comfort-oriented features like the one-handed magnetic fastener, and 12 different colors.Pros: Superb; secure fit; great design; 5-star safety rating; price-defying feature set Cons: Can get a little warm

explorethousand.com The adjustment dial is nondescript. Basic but easy to use. Above the dial is the helmet’s spot for a Thousand taillight that clips on via magnets. (Image: Alvin Holbrook/CyclingTips) The Heritage helmet has a retro vibe to it, like a 50s or 60s motorcycle helmet you'd expect to see paired with a shiny new Vespa scooter. It has a smooth, rounded shape, with a small lip for the visor and vents at the rear and on top. Unlike the large holes you get in many modern cycle helmets, the vents are barely noticeable at first glance. Pure Electric is the trading name of Pure Electric Ltd, New Farm Offices, Hartlake, Glastonbury, Somerset, BA6 9AB, United Kingdom / Company No: 11634997 / VAT No: GB 346 0709 05 For our review of the Heritage 2.0, my sister (who has a larger head than me) was surprised her measurements fell in between the medium and the large. Following the size chart advice to size down if in between sizes, she chose the medium and has been quite pleased.

Folks make compromises all the time in the name of good looks. While there are compromises to be made with the Thousand Heritage helmet, its good looks and solid feature set outweigh them. On the other hand, the Chapter model has an integrated Dial Fit System for precise adjustments that you can make with one hand. Electric scooters are not to be used on footpaths, cycle lanes or roads in the UK. It is the complete responsibility of the customer to ensure that you operate your e-scooter within all country and local laws. The customer assumes all liability and risk associated with the use of electric scooter products and holds Pure Electric Ltd and its owners free from any liability caused by their use. With several large vents for ventilation at the front and side of the helmet (12 in total) we found it plenty breathable and weren’t too sweaty after an hour-long ride in 30-degree weather (with 72 per cent humidity). There’s also a gutter action brow pad to ensure sweat doesn’t run into your eyes. Thousand definitely has their own niche and they handle it nicely. There’s a strong story behind it, which is also what makes it work.

The fit was perfect; to size, incredibly secure and didn’t budge during our tests on uneven terrain. There’s a pair of adjustable straps below the ears at the chin which aid with this, while the Roc Loc system enables easy adjustment of tension and height of the helmet. Overall, a real bargain that raises the bar for affordable off-road helmets. Thousand has also added a neat 50 lumens magnetic rear light attachment, which charges independently. We found this gave us 1-2 hours of additional visibility.

Thousand's latest iteration of their Heritage helmet brings improved ventilation and classically good looks, even if the helmet isn't for everyone.

As with any good mountain bike helmet, it assumes you’ll be looking down a lot, so has a very high profile with excellent visibility. It has great aerodymanics and feels faster than many of the mountain bike helmets we tested, despite the additional protection near the temples and base of the skull. A non-in-molded helmet will typically be heavier, and that’s the case with the Heritage 2.0. At 455g, the helmet is on the heavier side, but it’s both CPSC certified for bikes and ASTM F1492-15 certified for skateboarding and roller skating. Pricing, Colors, & Availability The story behind Thousand’s helmets is actually more complicated than you would expect at first. We all have those friends who don’t wear helmets because they think they look silly. Gloria’s friend was one of those people. Pros: Great price for previously premium tech; 5-star safety rating, good ventilation; secure fit Cons: Can feel quite bulky Thousand claims that they will replace your helmet if it gets stolen. You don’t need to register for any program either. Although, you will have to send them a claim. Either way, I hope that your helmet doesn’t get stolen!

One thing they should improve is the sizing so children can wear these helmets too – I think that all kids should wear helmets! Please Thousand, do it!

Faux leather (or vegan leather) looks good, doesn’t wear with sweat, and still offers a premium feel over traditional nylon straps. (Image: Alvin Holbrook/CyclingTips) Thousand Chapter is the newer, more expensive, and more advanced model. Among other improvements, Chapter helmets feature the MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) technology that protects your head from rotational impact. Mission accomplished, the sport has become an important part of her life. Kristen’s favorite disciplines are mountain biking andbike commuting, although youcan also find her crankingout a century on her road bike and touring with her husband and son. If it has to do with two wheels, she enjoys doing it.
