Description

Into this torpor arrives Cynthia, a loud, passionate heartbreaking young woman and the two of them launch into a brief, messy relationship. When I first read "Praise" I remember having a strong dislike for Cynthia—it was not just the eczema, but the intimacy of Gordon's body with Cynthia's bleeding, flaking body. These two books were published by BBC Active (an imprint of Education Publishers, Pearson Education Group) so that listeners to the BBC's school radio assembly programme "Together" could join in the singing.

Praise Books - Goodreads

This excellent book by Christopher Idle discusses the authorship, composition and character of every item in the Praise! He and his live-in girlfriend Cynthia LaMonde, a waitress, inhabit a world of casual sex, plentiful drugs and partying till dawn, pastimes that don't really give Gordon much pleasure, plagued as he is by a sense of being unfulfilled. Initially used for Billy Graham’s Mission England rallies – where thousands of people converted to Christianity – it has become a staple of worship throughout the UK and across the world. Your aim in loosing your tongue with words of gratitude is that God would be merciful and fill your words with the emotion of true gratitude.

Chris Idle has now provided us with a superbly useful book that offers a brief biography of all the authors and composers of the Praise! Somehow McGahan creates a feeling that things are moving forward swiftly and inevitably for Gordon and Cynthia, even when on the surface of things not a lot is happening. As a church leader and musician I want access to the absolute best of old and new, presented in contemporary and accessible language.

Praise (novel) - Wikipedia Praise (novel) - Wikipedia

Gordon seems to be a character that had no skerrick of optimism, the ultimate member of the No Future generation. I did actually read this novel many years ago, when I was newly back in Australia and enthusiastic about re-immersing myself in anything Australian. This book is a one-volume compilation of the hymn books "Come and Praise 1" (1978) and "Come and Praise 2" (1989).If you own the copyright to any of these carols, and would like to grant permission for items to be made available here, or to provide a link to sources where they are still available for sale, please contact us. Includes both the original words by David Lynch ("You gotta have love…") and alternative words by Geoffrey Gardiner. With that author McGahan makes this feeling of nothingness work superbly well with a narrative led tale that suits the lack of warmth in any of the characters that appear in the book.
