The only way of finding the truth was to get into the mental asylum and get the truth out of Tramnitz, but Till did not know what he was getting into.

Even before the big reveal, when Brooke thought Shane and Tim were in on the original murders together, it gave a strong original Scream vibe (Billy and Stu). Right down to intending to give each other superficial injuries to look like innocent victims. And for a while the reader was supposed to wonder if Shane was really innocent, sent to prison by Brooke’s damning testimony. Just like in Scream, where Cotton Weary was wrongly convicted in large part due to Sidney’s testimony. But Nobody knows that Brooke has a secret…her past connection to Shane Nelson, one of the penitentiary’s most dangerous inmates. Shane was Brooke’s high school sweetheart, who is now spending the rest of his life in prison for a series of horrific murders. and it was Brooke’s testimony that sent him to jail. Max's father is, however, given the chance infiltrate the prison where the presumed murdered is being held, and a grieving father with nothing to lose will stop at nothing to bring his boy home..... Despite how unnerving and creeped out they make me feel at night, I am always keen to read more of Sebastian Fitzek. As a teenager, Amelie moved to London on her own after both of her parents passed away. Not long after her move, she met Carolyn Blakely, who took her under her wing, giving her a housekeeping job and a place to live.

With all of this being said, it was suspenseful and it did keep me fairly engaged, but I have read all of B.A. Paris's works and when I see her name on a cover, I get excited. Likable heroine: Amelia, orphan, trying to survive in England to find her way, is naive, good hearted girl evolving into a bold, damaged, tough woman. The character development of Amelia is great and she’s easy to connect with. The first half of this book was super compelling, but the rest went on longer than it probably needed to. It felt like some parts were spoon-fed to the reader.I didn’t want this job. I wanted any other job but this one. But I applied to every single job within a sixty-minute commute of the town of Raker in upstate New York,” BA Paris is a talented author who is highly skilled in masterfully orchestrating compelling psychological thrillers.

The premise of the story was interesting and some of the individual scenes were quite frightening which I enjoyed along with the short sharp chapters to help build that sense of time and suspense. I enjoyed the short chapters that helped move the book along at a nice pace. The two timelines were also enjoyable and kept me invested. The book started strong and instantly grabbed my attention and had me wanting to know more. It was obvious from the beginning, that her husband was not the nicest of fellows, and I wanted to know more of his motivation and why both were taken. However, the second half of the book won me over, as the pace increases significantly due to the shorter chapters, and the answers I needed were discovered. Major spoilers/discussion on the extreme similarly to another work to follow: I wonder if Freida McFadden is a big fan of the Scream franchise? The similarities between Shane’s mother and Mrs. Loomis in Scream 2 are, well, striking. Not just the bonkers insane mother avenging her (murderous and terrible) son for “wrongs” his ex-girlfriend supposedly committed against him, but ALL of it. Please note this section will also spoil Scream and Scream 2 if you haven’t seen them.

Customer reviews

I have no words to explain how good it was! just when you think you’ve been hit with the main plot twist you get slapped in the face with another one! I wasn’t particularly impressed by the first 70%ish of this book (nothing to do with the writing style or author). Just seemed like Brooke was being so naive and not paying attention to the signs right in front of her face! But WOW what a twist.
