Many seagrass rug owners report that this odor dissipates within a few weeks and is replaced by a more subtle smell that many find refreshing. Humidity can increase the smell, so expect a strong scent if you are returning to your home or vacation hideaway that has been sealed up for weeks or months. Due to the difference in monitor colours, some rug colours may vary slightly. We try to represent all rug colours as accurately as possible.

We recommend that you vacuum one to three times per week, depending on the activity level in your home. Here is a closeup of the basketweave seagrass stair runner. The beauty of using seagrass is that staples arenot visible! It waseasy tohide them within the weave. Our future plan is to put hardwood flooring upstairs but we’ll have to wait a bit, hence why you see the unfinished edge at the top of the landing. Pro Tip: The adhesives used in wall-to-wall seagrass installation can contribute to a strong smell. For those who are sensitive to odors, ask your installer to use an adhesive that has little to no smell. COMFORTABLE? Seagrass is definitely NOT as soft and comfy as a regular carpet. However, we’ve had natural fiber rugs in our homes for years and we don’t mind the texture, even on bare feet.

This popular natural fiber flooring is made from seagrass, a perennial plant that grows in low-lying meadows of the Asia-Pacific region. These grass-like leaves are durable, and when woven together, create the texturally rich rugs and carpet that designers and homeowners love. tropics calypso cyprus arrowhead Seagrass needs to breath, so don’t install it in a basement or on a concrete slab. If you chose an area rug, routinely air it out. And don’t cover seagrass with plastic mats (think clear mats that office chairs roll on) as this traps moisture and can lead to mold and mildew growth. Sisal stair runner installation

Step 5: Covering the stair risers. Cut the finishing plywood into strips that are the width and length of your stair risers. Nail them to the risers with a finishing nail gun. Fill any nail holes in both the plywood and MDF with wood filler, then lightly sand any grit away. Caulk ALLedges with paintable caulk and then prime the staircase treads and risers with quality primer.

The big take-away from my installation experience was to staple under the top edge of the treads after installing the runner all the way up. That way you have a nice, tight installation on each tread. (The step-by-step tutorial is linked at the end of this post.) So what do you think of my Painted Staircase Makeover with Seagrass Runner? I’d love to hear from you! Use painter’s tape to mark the exact perimeters of your stair runner. This is a very important step. If you do not do this, then the stair runner can easily get misaligned. Seagrass rugs are a versatile design element that have long been a staple in both stately homes and humble abodes. Sir Evelyn de Rothschild’s beautiful home on Martha’s Vineyard highlights wall-to-wall seagrass in the common room. Seagrass blends with the calming hues of coastal cottages and can warm up modern or contemporary styles. The beauty of a seagrass natural fiber rug is the neutral landscape it presents, ready and waiting for your final edits or additions.

Which room best suits a sisal runner?

Not only are Seagrass rugs visually appealing, but they are also highly durable, making them suitable for high-traffic areas. Their stain-resistant nature ensures that they can withstand the demands of daily use while maintaining their natural beauty. The resilience of Seagrass fibers makes them an excellent choice for households with pets and children. Step 8: (This step is where you could use a second person to help but I somehowmanaged by myself). Pull the hose of your air stapler all the way to the top of the steps and set it down. Next, pull up the seagrass rug to the very top step’s riser, center the rug between the tape lines and staple to secure. Start in the center and then work your way outward. Be sure to put enough initial staples in.

In my experience with natural fiber area rugs in other parts of our home, if food or something solid (like play-do for instance) is on the rug, it’s best to let it dry, and then scrape it up and vacuum out the bits that are left. Stay tuned for some tips on cleaning natural fiber rugs in the near future. If you do end up with mold, we recommend treating the area with a mild bleach solution (one part bleach to six parts water). Always test the solution on an inconspicuous area of your rug (not on the binding)—you do not want it to bleach the fibers. Once deemed safe, lightly apply the solution to the area with a soft brush. Let sit for five to ten minutes and then rub with a clean cloth. Repeat if necessary. Be sure to dry the rug thoroughly. Our Care Guides offer more detailed instructions. Seagrass’s grass-like fibers are susceptible to mold and mildew growth with prolonged exposure to humidity or moisture. To avoid this undesirable outcome, make sure that you only install wall-to-wall in a dry, climate-controlled setting. Those in humid environments will need proper air conditioning to keep mold at bay.

Maybe you are considering buying a seagrass rug or installing seagrass wall-to-wall and have questions, like: What are the pros and cons of seagrass flooring? Will a seagrass rug match my style? Where can I buy a seagrass rug? (Hint: here!) Can I use a seagrass rug outdoors? Step 9: Cut the bottom of the rug just above the shoe molding with very sharp scissors. Don’t staple all the way down the sides quite yet. Remove the ribbon edge from end of the scrap rug piece. Hot glue that ribbon onto the bottom of the stair rug. Now you can finish stapling. Step 7:Time to install the seagrass runner! Woo hoo! Unroll the seagrass runner and allow it to sit flat overnight. Measure the width of the runner and take that measurement and center it on your staircase. For mine, I needed to maintain a 2.5″ space on either side of the seagrass runner.
