Wooden curtain pole in a traditional woodstain finish with Turned Ball finials. 35mm diameter Mahogany finish curtain pole. Advent Designs traditional wood stained curtain poles have a French polished finish and are hand waxed to a natural soft sheen. But a few days ago, I started drilling with my combi drill on a hammer drill setting with HSS bits. However, I just couldn't do it and didn't know if it was just me being weak. If you have one long perfectly straight length, then that's great! I wasn't as fussed as I need to use up off cuts and it won't be at eye level. Advent Designs traditional wood stained curtain poles have a French polished finish and are hand waxed to a natural softsheen.

I've fitted a few curtain poles with my husband over the past few years. I'm usually holding the spirit level while he likes to take over. And normally, we've only ever had issues with using the right plasterboard fittings. To help your batten blend in to the wall even more, I used Painters Mate. It's similar to caulk but is flexible. I thought this was perfect for something glued to the wall. So to glue my batten together, I used Bostik's Fix and Flash which was gifted from an old unpaid craft challenge. MARK WHERE YOU WANT YOUR POLE BATTENFor eyelet curtains, the choice of diameter will largely depend on the size of the eyelets. Operating Your Curtain Pole I am slightly concerned that even this method may not work as our curtain pole and curtains are quite heavy. The wooden batten is a decent size as well at 21deepx92tallx2400wide(mm) so there is a some weight in it also, it's a pine strip wood plank from B&Q ( other brands are available 🙂 ). I don't know what we do if this fails as it will be nearly impossible to get the board off the plaster board without cutting it out, making an even bigger mess and repair job. There is no hard and fast rule on how high your curtain pole should be but as a general rule of thumb the norm is to position it around 15-20cms above the window. If the pole you have chosen is quite wide, position it high enough so that it does not come below the window recess.

Our bespoke curtain poles come in a range of diameters from 19mm to 50mm. However, you don’t necessarily need a larger pole for heavier curtains. Base your choice on how prominent you’d like the curtain pole to be. All Advent hardwood poles are sourced and finished in the UK and all are taken from sustainable and managed resources Then my husband took over and he found it impossible too. And we soon realised we must have hit the steel lintel. As we don't have an SDS drill and my Dad's is too far away to borrow, it beat us both. inches is the general rule when it comes to how far your curtain pole should extend past the window itself. The main reason you want to let your curtain pole extend beyond the window by this much is so that the curtains overlap the window and wall – preventing light from seeping in around the edge of the window. Can you hang pencil pleat curtains on a pole? However, in bedrooms where windows may sit higher, or other furniture is needed curtains tend to cut off just below the windows. Similarly, kitchen curtains may do the same – so really there is no clear-cut rule on the matter. How far should a curtain pole extend beyond a window?I already know the height for the batten, it will be centred horizontally on the window, and I have already painted it. My intended method is slightly different, I have predrilled 5 holes in the batten, hole 3 being in the dead centre, the others equidistant. I plan to put a hole in the wall in the centre, matching the central batten hole, screw the batten (hole 3) to this while it is supported manually at either end, I can then adjust it around the centre to get it level, once level it will be manually held there and I will drill the other 4 pilot holes into the wall with a small bit, going through the pre-drilled holes in the batten, all done in place. The Silent Gliss 7650 Basic Electric Pole is an electrically operated pole that comes complete with a switch to open and close the curtains. It works in the same way as the Basic system and comes with a standard three pin mains plug so there is not need for an electrician to wire the product into the mains. The motor fits directly into the pole and runs a belt around the pole; this makes the pole much more efficient as well as being more reliable than other forms of operation. The design and look is the same as the 50mm Metropole and is available in seven different colours. The 7650 system has a manual override so that in the event of a power failure the curtains can be drawn by hand. In addition to the system operation the 7650 electric curtain pole also has a “touch and go” feature which will take over the operation of the curtain if it is ever pulled by hand. The motor and transformer are hidden behind the curtains ensuring that the product is attractive, simple and effective. This is a made to measure product that is made to your bespoke size. Then repeat the same marking and measuring for your curtain pole, then pre drill and screw to the batten. CAULKING TO FINISH

If you’re hanging floor-length curtains and fitting them lower down, a 30mm pole will stand out enough to be seen and not be overpowered by the curtain. Curtain poles with gliders, such as the Silent Gliss Metropole, are great at carrying heavy curtains. They operate smoothly and make handling bulky fabrics a breeze. Choose between the corded Silent Gliss 6120 and the uncorded 6130. Now you'll need to measure and mark the centre point on your batten and one dead centre above your window. I am about to do this in an apartment where the curtain pole keeps coming out of the wall, it is making a real mess of the plaster board and multiple holes have been drilled already to no avail.

Sturdy Wooden Curtain Poles

Generally, yes curtains should touch the floor. However, it does come down to window style and placement as well as personal preference. Curtains generally should sit flush with the floor, gather a little at the bottom or sit just above. With my batten being an MDF off cut, you can buy MDF sealer. However, I skipped this step and painted with two coats of the same wall paint instead. For more detailed information, our curtain pole buying guide explains how high your curtain pole should be.
