Also, if this matters to you, “Fly Me to the Moon” is not available on any of the sets; instead we get the melancholy “Rei I” piano track over the Japanese credits.

Starting off the second countdown details is a collector’s edition Blu-ray that pretty much follows the same approach that Anime Limited had done for their other titles; Fullmetal Alchemist (2003), Gurren Lagann and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. Evangelion is where the whole Japanese storytelling trope of "a small group of people know everything about a ridiculously convoluted scheme against humanity and the audience will be drip-fed parts of it in the slowest, most awkward, most frustrating way possible" really took off. It was even worse on the "Video Format" version of EoE found that was on the Japanese pre-Renewal Vol. SRP, the UK release sold all 1500 units within 12 hours and eventually was allocated an additional 1000 units which is almost sold out.The main criticism levelled against is actually about the sexualisation of the 14-year-old pilots, but that stems from Westerners simply not understanding Japanese culture. But thanks to support he received from his friends at GAINAX, and of course Miyazaki, Anno decided to give the fans an ending they wanted. Presented on Blu-ray, this groundbreaking, action-packed series from creator Hideaki ANNO has been hailed as one of the most important anime series of all time – a remarkable fusion of genres, and a powerful examination of the relationship between man and machine. Anime Limited announced plans for an Ultimate Edition the day they announced the license, and what we got is another big box full of artwork and debatable design choices. You wouldn't know he was from there though, as there weren't Evangelion themed things about and people rarely even talked about it.

We also don’t get any commentary tracks either in English or Japanese, which is a PRODIGIOUS disappointment, especially when you consider that the old school Platinum DVD’s had commentary tracks on just about every disk from the ADR crew featuring the ADR Director Matt Greenfield and other actors and members of the production crew. They are no stranger to large box sets as seen with Fullmetal Alchemist 2003‘s Gate of Resin which is heavy enough to kill a person, or Cowboy Bebop offering a Vinyl case.We know that the rights for the use within Japan are cleared (otherwise there wouldn't be "Fly Me to the Moon" in these releases either), but we don't know if they were willing to pay "that" amount or if they only had to pay much less for the use within Japan only.

The person who was quoted allegedly stated the licensor doesn't want it in the show outside Japan period because they don't want it associated with it. As shown in the comparison list above, both the Classic English dub discs (5 in total) as well as The End of Evangelion video format version (which was on its own disc) are not included in the standard edition release. The PA announcements throughout the show are often heard coming from one surround speaker or the other, and there are panning effects whenever vehicles, Evas, or Angels move around the viewer. There’s moderately deep bass to enhance the impact of the action, and Shiro Sagisu’s iconic score sounds very good. For more about Neon Genesis Evangelion: Complete Series and the Neon Genesis Evangelion: Complete Series Blu-ray release, see Neon Genesis Evangelion: Complete Series Blu-ray Review published by Neil Lumbard on December 21, 2021 where this Blu-ray release scored 4. The NEON GENESIS EVANGELION Limited Edition features over 5 hours of bonus features, with both Official (2019) and Classic (1996) Dub and Subtitled options spread over 11 discs.
