I have seen lots of comments to that effect and these headphones are in need of some pad swapping, in my view. Meze Audio's aim is to change the perception of headphones as technical devices or as cheap plastic accessories and create a mature product to fall in love with. They are my first hi end (ish) headphone so I don’t really have anything to compare them to, but I will say that yes the bass is substantial. Build quality is excellent throughout, and I would struggle to find something I didn't like about them.

I have to salute whoever created this design from an aesthetical standpoint alone; they are one of the best-looking headphones I have tried to date. The Meze 99 Classic is very well done with a nice simple but stylish box to the very efficient packing of everything inside the hard PU-leather case. The lightweight build is very comfortable and the leather head strap disperses the weight evenly across the top of the head. Equalization should always use a light hand, but you can do a lot with either Equalizer APO for Windows or Wavelet for Android. I’m not slating these headphones in any way and I’m not removing these genres from the 99’s forte, I just think that jazz/classical fans should double check that these headphones treat their ears and their well and come up to their expectations.This way, Meze are helping the environment and giving the old trees a chance to shine one more time in the shape of Meze headphones. Just like fingerprints, wood grain is as unique, thus making each pair of Meze Headphones a one of a kind. The Treble is well extended with good overall details and a smoothed presentation, there was no harshness, and it has decent air and sparkle. So, before you see these headphones reviewed on mother and baby sites, toy soldiers sites, gardening sites and baking a better granary loaf sites be assured that the headphones themselves are pretty special in sonic terms. That kind of form-fitting is also reflected in the padding on the ear cups which sit almost flat around the ears but still allow them room to breathe.

Inside the case, there are, of course, the Meze 99 Classic headphones plus a soft felt puck-shaped case that contains the accessories.It is worth mentioning that all the wood that we use in our headphones is strictly harvested from sources with a certificate of origin. Build quality is excellent, everything is finished to a very high standard, and there was nothing to complain about in manufacturing. Their flagship headphone the Empyrean was selected as our Best Product of the Year for 2020 and its In-Ear-Monitor (IEM), the Rai Penta, is an AudioKey Reviews’ favorite.

Patricia Barber’s Dansons La Gigue (Verse, Premonition Records) plays and brushes across cymbals are just that, decidedly so. The Y split and jack metal covers are in a matching silver accent to the rest of the headphones (gold if you bought the gold edition) with the logo on the front.The connecting joints on the skeleton of the headphones are the only place where you’ll find the Meze branding. With generous 40mm drivers the sound drops right down to 15Hz – giving these headphones deep, powerful bass. The Meze 99 Classic is a beautiful walnut wood headphone that can be purchased with either gold or silver accents, the ones we will be reviewing today are the walnut silver.

When you pick them up for the first time, I bet you will be surprised at how little these headphones weigh. Also, 99 Classics have this lovely timbre of vocals and live instruments, which is pretty easy to love. They were a little cooler because of the perforations on the insides of the pads, but I think that is also where the bass went.
