I read a lot of memoirs of comedians, Russel Brand, Jack Dee, Rob Brydon, Michael McIntyre and Stephen Fry to name a few. Back in 2017, Peter told fans that "unforeseen family circumstances" forced him to cancel his latest tour, but the comedian didn't reveal any further details. He explained: “As it was Parkinson’s last show, maybe I could bring some things with me to celebrate. The book begins with a story about how he started learning to drive which seemed odd, but he goes off on tangents, with loads of flashbacks. The comedian's first book - The Sound Of Laughter - is still the biggest-selling hardback autobiography of all time, selling "well over a million copies" across all print editions since publication in 2006.

Discussing recording it at home, Kay said: "Audible said it was fine, so that made everything much more relaxed. Peter Kay published this autobiography in 2006 and it was apparently the UK's best selling hardback in this genre. It was a huge deal for him when, in 1990, he landed his first junior job at Granada Television — which he describes as “the Hollywood of the north”. Peter Kay's unerring gift for observing the absurdities and eccentricities of family life has earned himself a widespread, everyman appeal.

This covers his school life, life following school, uni, various college courses and dozens of jobs. Kay is mainly known for appearing on his own sitcoms and shows but he has occasionally tried other projects.

Appearing on chat shows like Parkinson, at the Queen's Golden Jubilee and sharing letters from Ronnie Barker. He continued: "Appearing on chat shows like Parkinson, at the Queen's Golden Jubilee and sharing letters from Ronnie Barker. The Channel 4 series began in November 2004 and although it only ran for one series is fondly remembered by fans. A year later, Peter's Car Share won at the National Television Awards but he did not attend to collect the gong. He doesn't tell jokes about politics or sex, but rather rejoices in the far funnier areas of life: elderly relatives and answering machines, dads dancing badly at weddings, garlic bread and cheesecake, your mum's HRT.Everybody would be getting involved, discussing if I could or couldn’t, so I just didn’t tell anybody. As for my criticism of autobiographies published too early in someone’s career, well The Sound of Laughter only covers Peter Kay’s life up to him breaking through as a stand up comedian. It is just that he seems to have been extremely lucky in his road to success and we are all aware of all of it.

He mentions in his book that audio books can sometimes be boring and put you to sleep half way through the first chapter, that’s a criticism that can’t be applied in this case! I mean like cooking his meals when he's an adult (daily, not occassionally), though he was obviously very close to his mother (and I certainly don't object to that). What makes this book special is how it shows how hard Peter worked in his life to earn money to pay for his college. However the appearance didn’t go completely according to plan as Kay found him to be “very eccentric” and said that he “talked utter nonsense, spouting weird quotes, crap jokes, limericks” and making weird noises.I handed him a collapsible lollipop stick and said, “It’s 20 minutes outside a primary school – morning and evening”. But only that but he will start a story, go off on a tangent, come back to the original story, go off on a tangent again… The first chapter I hadn’t a clue in the end which story he was trying to tell. Then Parky and I acted out a little scene in front of the other guests where I pretended I was crossing a road while he pretended to hold back traffic. The North West comedian has collected his childhood memories as well as documenting his impressive journey from Phoenix Nights to Car Share. Kay also had a second encounter of sorts with Savile many years later when he was invited to BBC Media City in Salford for an event that took place the day after a Savile documentary aired on ITV exposing his sick behaviour. These vivid observations coupled with a kind of nostalgia that never fails to grab his audience's shared understanding, have earned him comparisons with Alan Bennett and Ronnie Barker.I loved hearing how close he was to his family, how he loved being at home, his favourite tea of chicken Kiev, chips, beans and a fried egg (must try that). But one memory he is particularly fond of includes appearing on the last episode of Michael Parkinson’s chat show before he retired in 2007. Appearing on chat shows like Parkinson, at The Queen's Golden Jubilee and sharing letters from Ronnie Barker. I’d been grabbing every opportunity with both hands in an effort to get my foot in the door, going from job to job for years and not considering what really mattered. Whilst working on BBC Series The Sunday Show, Kay decided to “push the boat out” on his last episode of Peter Kay’s World Of Entertainment segment and get Jimmy Savile on.
