For those who don’t want to use a computer for mixing, DJs can plug in their mobile device directly into the smart DJ controller with the help of the WeDJ, djay, or edjing mix applications. The Pioneer DDJ-200 offers a smart way top mix your music. Connect your smartphone, tablet or PC/Mac and start mixing your digital music. The DDJ-200 is compatible with a wide variety of software programmes and apps, including WeDJ for iPhone, WeDJ for Android, djay, edjing Mix and rekordbox. You get a rekordbox dj licence key bundled with this controller. Simply activate your licence key for the DJ software, connect the controller and start DJing. These features get a DJ’s feet wet into manual mixing, but they don’t train the DJ on how to do it.

The DDJ-400 on the other hand features a sound card and an RCA output and you will be able to connect your speakers directly to the unit using appropriate cables. DDJ-200 & DDJ-400 output sections DJs can mix on either their mobile device (with a mixing app & streaming services) or computer (using Pioneer’s Rekordbox DJ.) In our current technocratic age, everyone has a smartphone. Not everyone has a suitable laptop for mixing.

It’s kind of a bummer that each mixing app doesn’t support all the streaming services. The corporate shills won’t let all the platforms cross over. You’ve got to select the DJing app that suits your flavor of streaming. The app records your mixing, which is perfect for posting on Soundcloud to gain a following. The app is free to install for this smart DJ controller, but to get all the extra goodies; you’ll have to pay in-app charges. Mixer Section and Controller Controls The buttons that let you change the performance pad modes also aren’t present on the DDJ-200. DDJ-200 is made with mobile devices in mind. For the simplest connection to your source, go for a wireless, Bluetooth connection. Or, if you prefer to be wired in, simply plug the DDJ-200 into your PC, Mac, tablet or smartphone with a USB cable, or connect to your iPad or iPhone with a Lightning cable and start mixing your music using the compatible DJ software or app of your choice. The DDJ-200 is a unique controller to set up with speakers and headphones. As the controller has no audio connections, the speakers actually connect to the phone, tablet or computer. The included splitter cable allows for both the headphones and speakers to connect to just the one headphone port. Some phones will need a headphone adaptor to connect the splitter cable.

The controller comes with a headphone splitter that starts from your phone or laptop and splits to your headphones and speaker, both using 3.5mm outs. You can’t, therefore, connect to a pair of speakers without a mixer, or a 3.5mm to RCA cable. What Equipment Do You Really Need To DJ? – Gear Recommendations Both devices feature only 2 mixer channels. A DJ controller combines all the equipment DJs need into one single unit. Rather than buying a mixer and two players separately, all the gear combines into one sleek device. The faders feel a little cheap, but they are relatively smooth and tactile. There is no gain knobs on each channel, which still perplexes me. A mixer without gain controls?!?! That’s how you know it’s a super entry-level model. We take a look at Pioneer DJ’s most affordable DJ controller to date, the DDJ-200. With no audio connections and designed to connect to your phone via Bluetooth this little controller will no doubt turn heads in the DJ community. But aimed at the beginners who care more about ease of use than performance features, could this be the controller that launches the next generation of DJ? Let’s find out! The Pioneer DJ DDJ 200, the cheapest and smallest controller from Pioneer to date. The Hardware
