Shearman, Robert; Pearson, Lars (2009). Wanting to Believe: A Critical Guide to The X-Files, Millennium & The Lone Gunmen. Mad Norwegian Press. ISBN 978-0975944691. The X-Files was converted into a comic book series published by Topps Comics during the show's third and fourth seasons. The initial comic books were written solely by Stefan Petrucha. According to Petrucha, there were three types of stories: "those that dealt with the characters, those that dealt with the conspiracy, and the monster-of-the-week sort of stuff". [222] Petrucha cited the latter as the easiest to write. Petrucha saw Scully as a "scientist [...] with real world faith", and that the difference between [Mulder and Scully] is not that Mulder believes and Scully doesn't; it's more a difference in procedure." [222] In this manner, Mulder's viewpoint was often written to be just as valid as Scully's, and Scully's science was often portrayed to be just as convincing as Mulder's more outlandish ideas. [222] Petrucha was eventually fired and various other authors took up the job. [222] Topps published 41 regular issues of The X-Files from 1995–98. a b Salamon, Julie (21 May 2002). The show was about the cases; the show was about the quest. Whatever the show was about, it wasn't about this relationship. That's kind of, I think, the magic of the relationship and the show, is that it was never the point of the show — it always happened in the spaces of the show.

Within / Without / The Gift / Per Manum / This Is Not Happening / DeadAlive / Three Words / Vienen / Essence / Existence The series revolves around Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Special Agents Fox Mulder ( David Duchovny) and Dana Scully ( Gillian Anderson), who investigate the eponymous " X-Files": marginalized, unsolved cases involving paranormal phenomena. Mulder is a skilled criminal profiler, an ardent supernaturalist, and a conspiracy theorist who believes in the existence of the paranormal, whereas Scully is a medical doctor and a skeptic who has been assigned to scientifically analyze Mulder's discoveries. Early in the series, both agents become pawns in a larger conflict and come to trust only each other and a few select people. The agents also discover an agenda of the government to keep secret the existence of extraterrestrial life. Mulder and Scully's shared adventures lead them to develop a close platonic bond, which by series' end develops into a romantic relationship. Roughly one third of the series' episodes follow a complex mythopoeia-driven story arc about a planned alien invasion, whereas the other two-thirds are " monster of the week" episodes that each focus on a one-off villain, mutant, or monster. a b Rob Bowman (director), Howard Gordon (writer). The very idea that the corrupt and the murky could be centred on something as crazy as a government cover-up of aliens in Area 51 now seems almost quaint. The X-Files is actually a naively optimistic show from a time when America hadn’t been so deeply threatened and could turn its attention inward. Any show that opens every episode by asserting ‘The truth is out there’ is fundamentally pretty optimistic and open-minded. Hassenger, Jesse (November 4, 2003). For anyone who has questions about what is going on in the world around them, and doesn't buy into the version we are sold by the mass media, this film is a perfect primer that covers most of the more interesting topics in a cohesive overview. There is no shortage of docs that go into more depth on the any of the subjects, but there is plenty here to pique one's interest and to seek these other films out, many of which are available on general DVD release. a b Staff (November 8, 2000).
