I cannot wait for my sister to read it as well, since she is married to a woman, I really want her thoughts on it. The way this was written really dispelled any sense of trepidation or the suspense I would have expected in such a book. I did see all the big reveals coming, (Carly being Scarlett, Jasper and Wes being villains), but that didn’t really take away from my enjoyment of the story. I couldn't put this book down, and I'm loathe to give anything away to avoid ruining your reading experience. Even though isn't classified as "dark academia", I loved how the plot's setting was centered within an academic institution.

I did guess the Wes/Jasper twists but that didn’t keep me from enjoying the ride at all - I loved where this went. Thanks to her meticulous planning, she’s avoided drawing attention to herself…but as she’s preparing for her biggest kill yet, the school starts probing into the growing body count on campus. Jeannie and I spent three hours discussing everything from the characters and plot to the significance of the color red.

Scarlett studies them, meticulously plots their demise, and then ensures they can never harm another woman ever again. Her opinions on education are very strong, and feels it is a waste of ability to not pursue a path that takes advantage of one's natural talents.Carly, a first year student at Gormon, begins an intense friendship with her enigmatic and confident roommate, Allison. As the rage builds in her year after year, she picks her "victim" out, she plans, stalks them and then goes in for the kill.

You think the fact she was quite literally sleeping with the enemy would make her question her judgement, but nah, she goes right back to it without so much of a thought about Jasper. The first twist hits at about 40% and it is shocking, surprising, and so intelligently done I was still reeling, pages later. I was listening to the book while driving one afternoon, and I just about drove off the road at one of the major reveals. I definitely need to get my hands on Layne Fargo's debut, Temper, and will be looking out for her next book with eager, grabby little hands!the two books share the same kind of pleasantly unexpected and somewhat unhinged endings, but in nearly every other way, they are complete opposites, particularly in matters of the sisterhood, and that’s all i can say about that here. It’s clear from his social media he considers that his backup plan if the whole football thing doesn’t work out. Overall: Even though all the women characters at the book were a little terrifying and the method of their justice was a little argumentative, it was fast pacing, smart, entertaining , thought provoking reading with lovely queer representation.
