When I was in college, I had no money, and it was the Golden Age of Post Punk/NewWave (Banshees, Cure, Bunnymen, etc. I’m happy to say that it was well worth the wait as this album is exactly what I’ve been looking for this year; it covers it all, there’s balls out rock, there’s amazing ballads, modern rock songs and there’s balls out rock. Halestorm’s ‘The Strange Case of Halestorm’ album is repressed on a single clear LP and is a one-time pressing. It is very important that I note this is a rare album, and first of this blog, that gets a 10 out of 10 for its diversity and recognition and respect in the rock community.

It seems a strange decision to put three mellow songs in a row; “Beautiful With You”, “In Your Room”, “Break In”, but they’re all great tracks. Getting the listener back in to hearing electric guitars and heavy drums, but with a chorus that makes the song sound like an opera, with its dramatic use of organs and vocals. I Miss The Misery” was a guaranteed radio hit, and in this case, this is not a derogatory comment; Lzzy’s performance is exceptional and truly exciting. I've only discovered Halestorm very recently, coming across the video for Love Bites on Kerrang and loving the frantic energy of it.

What I love with this album is the balance of tracks, ‘In Your Room’ steps in between big rocker and ballad and gives us a great middle of the road rock song and then ‘Break In’ is a purely piano driven ballad once again allowing Lzzy to belt it out, I mean how good is this lyric “Put your lighter in the air and lead me back home…” Moving back to the guitars, we get ‘Rock Show’ a story all about what we know and love. Halestorm’s The Strange Case of Halestorm album is repressed on a single clear LP and is a one-time pressing. This track is a rather slow song, featuring a full rock bands worth of instruments, just not as distorted as the previous four songs. It is impossible not to instantly get in to the song, thanks to Arejay Hale’s pounding drum beat and the tough-as-nails guitar riff that follows. It is a soft song, acoustic song, not quite a ballad, but sounding like it would have been released in the 90’s when bands like Cranberries and Third Eye Blind were releasing hits.
