Even reading over the names of the various groups formed under the Discordian banner are veritably fantastic and a clear reflection that the late 60's and 70's were a time of liberation on all fronts. We depend almost entirely on donations from exceptional readers and listeners just like you, but fewer than 1% give.

Adam Gorightly, author of The Prankster and the Conspiracy about Kerry Thornley and the early Discordians, said the copy in the JFK collection was not a copy of the first edition but a later and altered version containing some of the original material. No surprises in this based-on-true-story telling of the Marine platoon that Lee Harvey Oswald served in. Recently I've come across more information on "brother-in-law" aka Gary Kirstein and his partner in crime, Slim Brooks. In Adam Gorightly's The Prankster and the Conspiracy: The Story of Kerry Thornley and How He met Oswald and Inspired the Counterculture, a most intriguing and vivid portrait of this essential and vital anarchist spirit is effectively painted. He was one of the few people to ever make it seem cool to be an agonistic, and his skepticism, which was genuine, makes much of what goes by that name these days seem like its own form of closemindedness. One of Oswald’s favorite routines was to compare the Marine Corps to the society George Orwell created in 1984.

The first edition was allegedly printed using District Attorney Jim Garrison’s Xerox printer in 1963. No telling what kind of Trojan war her question would have caused if she had chosen to roll it into the mix at the time. In this case, KT was mocking the real assassins at large without anyone really knowing it, since he was drawing so much attention to himself. When asked how Kerry responded to the disclosure of his homosexuality, Stephens replied: As a good friend would: very tolerant. By November 1963, according to his own account, Thornley was living in a New Orleans apartment he rented from John Spencer.S. Marine Corps for about two years, Thornley had been summoned to active duty in 1958 at age 20, soon after completing his freshman year at the University of Southern California. The following year Thornley moved to New Orleans where it was claimed he associated with Guy Banister, David Ferrie and Clay Shaw. Apparently the perpetrators—Kerry, Greg, and other unnamed cohorts—made a recording of what, at first, appeared to be a regular radio program, with music playing innocently from a radio positioned on the apron of the stage.

So the book is a bit sad, but nonetheless fascinating for anyone interested Discordianism, 60's counterculture, or conspiracy theories.

Some re-publishers have claimed copyright in relation to the additional material included in their editions. Guy Banister, another Minutemen member in New Orleans, had been accused by Garrison of involvement in the assassination and was allegedly connected to Lee Harvey Oswald through the Fair Play for Cuba Committee leaflet.
