Lesson finally learned, Dany uses her magic to fix the gym, taking responsibility for the damage caused by her fight with Neptune in the previous book, and then destroys her back of mindwiping t-shirts. Soon she begins to use the sketchbook and finds that whatever she draws in the sketchbook "comes to life. The thing is, even when you create a best friend, there’s no guarantee they’ll always be your best friend. She moans and complains a lot about how unfortunate she is and how no one likes her, but never once do we even see her trying to reach out to other kids, and more than once, other kids reach out to her in clearly friendly ways.

A manga inspired look, with modern styles, characters and action, this is at once both humorous and serious. Laura studied literature twice at university, so she's read a lot of books (always helpful when writing them). But when she looks out of her bedroom window on the morning of her tenth birthday she sees something amazing. For anyone who is thinking of gifting a graphic novel for a struggling pre-teen, this might be the perfect fit. Here Kerry will learn how to start conversations, take turns and play fairly, and work through disagreements and apologise - as well as understand different kinds of friendship and how they can change and grow.Danielle needs a perfect friend, but sometimes making (or creating) one is a lot easier than keeping one! Cloney” uncovers the secret behind Dany’s parents’ recent good fortune when she accidentally shatters a jar that releases a blue dog—a hinn—that promptly escapes and runs loose around the town, and Dany’s parents realize that she has been hiding magic from them as well. Whether they dream of becoming future doctors, scientists, bankers, or solicitors, this book will provide the foundation for their journey.

A perfectly judged niche story that has general appeal due to a clean text and cute character; Specs for Rex is a visual treat that's really worth putting your glasses on for. Additionally this book reveals that Dany wiped the minds of the students, including her friends, and faculty who saw the fight in Making Friends, fearing the consequences of others knowing that she has a magical sketchbook and powers from the objects that she has made with it. This all culminates in an epic showdown, which I won’t spoil here, but, suffice it to say, if you were a fan of Sailor Moon as a kid, then you’ll probably love it.Watching this kernel of truth grow and mature in Gudsnuk’s reality is pitch-perfect, right down to the Sailor Moon-esque battle royale near the end of the story. Making Friends book 4 , Making Friends: Together Forever, will be the final book in the series which releases in January 2024. Having finished and loved Making Friends, I hurried out to get the sequel, Back to the Drawing Board.

With fun and lively illustrations, this funny book prompts children to discuss the idea of friendship with parents and peers. He emerges, alive, from the pages into her room, but since she only sketched his pretty face, he is just a talking “floaty head. Awkward jumps between scenes and tiny illegible jokey comments in the frames’ backgrounds (which ARE sometimes funny when you can actually read them) are just two of the numerous problems with this disjointed story. I wish I had something negative to say about this book for the sake of a balanced review, but I don’t. All of this, including her psychic, and possibly still evil, floating-head boyfriend, is amazing – but she’s still not popular and has no one to hang out with at school.

What was most troubling about this graphic novel is that it appears to want to tackle some tough topics, but then just brushes them off. With Madison by her side, Dany is happy again but what will happen if Madison discovers the truth about where she comes from and will Prince Neptune shows his true colors? If you’re an adult woman who wants to have closer friends I think there’s no reason to not get this book.
