Nano needling is gentle and safe, but very effective. What’s the difference between microneedling and nano needling? As we grow older, the cycle of new skin growth slows and less collagen and elastin are produced. This results in fine lines, wrinkles and dark spots (pigmentation). Applying creams and serums on your face may succeed to moisturise the outer layer of dead skin, but no penetration takes place to the living part of the skin. The active molecules are simply too big to pass through the ultra protective epidermis layer. Dr Pen creates "micro-channels" which allow for deeper penetration of serums and ingredients results in higher efficacy, meaning you get more out of your serums than usual. The great thing about nano needling is that it’s incredibly gentle and requires no downtime, meaning your routine need not change. Nano needling is safe to perform on all skin types and colours and so long as care is taken to protect the skin after nano needling, there is no risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (hyperpigmentation that occurs as a result of inflammation or trauma). Yes! If you are micro or nano needling at home make sure to follow these steps…if your treatment is being done by a professional ask them for their expert aftercare advice.

When you move Dr Pen over the skin, it creates a “micro-channel” which is why it's recommended you use it with a serum of your choice such as hyaluronic acid or EGF. Hours After: Begin to gently exfoliate the dry/flaking skin to help speed up the recovery process, and continue to hydrate the skin, morning and night. Please note that this step is totally optional and if you choose to exfoliate to speed along the process, be sure not to exfoliate with any chemical or physical exfoliants, as both can irritate your skin as it heals. Do not exfoliate if the skin feels too sensitive – the flakiness and dryness of the skin will naturally subside. When the silicone tipped pins gently touch the skin, they create thousands of nano channels, which allow your skincare products to penetrate deeper and have a greater effect on the skin. Within 15 minutes after nano needling, the nano channels close themselves.

Do not use any Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acid, Retinol (Vitamin A), Vitamin C (in a low pH formula) or anything perceived as ‘active’ skincare for at least 7 days post-treatment. You should only use Dr Pen products for micro and nano needling that are sold by official trusted distributors like us at dr-pen UK. Microneedling is a fantastic procedure for anyone who wishes to restore vitality to their complexion and anyone who wishes to heal skin imperfections and fight the visible signs of ageing. That being said some individuals will need to take greater safety precautions. There are some conditions that will preclude individuals from safely performing microneedling, or will mean that microneedling will need to be cleared by a medical professional first. Some of these conditions are eczema, rosacea, contagious skin conditions, active acne and fungal infections. Its also recommended to chat to a dermatologist if you have ever had chemical peels, laser or cosmetic surgery, filler injections and Botox. What needle types and depth should I use? Nano needling is also great for treating fine lines and wrinkles, firming up loose skin and reducing swelling. Nano needling is a non-invasive skin treatment that heralds a multitude of benefits - improved tone and texture, reduced appearance of enlarged pores, improvement to fine lines and reduced pigmentation.

This minor precaution will ensure that your skin is not irritated. What can you expect after nano needling? Nano needling and micro needling both treat similar skincare concerns and both use a skin needling pen to create microchannels in the skin. This then triggers the skin’s natural healing process - the skin produces more collagen and elastin to ‘heal’ the micro injuries, which results in improved skin health and a reduction to the visible signs of ageing. Again, use a criss-cross motion using alternate upward strokes. Continue with even pressure; if you have loose skin, make sure to hold it taut. 3. Brow area After treatment: Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and apply a nourishing moisturiser. Avoid products containing fragrances or active ingredients (vitamin C, A/Retinols), acids (lactic acid, AHA, BHA), scrubs or toners which may cause irritation. Your skin may experience mild swelling, bruising, peeling and flaking. You can minimise the dryness/flakiness during the healing process by keeping the skin moisturised, which will reduce shedding and alleviate tightness. Avoid exercising, sweating excessively, swimming or applying makeup for 24 hours. You must apply a high protection sunscreen when going outdoors, and avoid prolonged sun exposure. Microneedling is a skincare treatment where you use a derma roller or a dermapen to create deliberate wounds on the skin with tiny needles to stimulate collagen production. Through monthly treatments, derma rollers and dermapens can improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and scarring, while also firming and brightening your complexion. An anti-ageing serum with high-quality ingredients is ideal to use when nano needling to really nourish your skin from within. Microneedling is a cosmetic non invasive procedure to approve the appearance of your skin. People turn to microneedling (sometimes also referred to as nanoneedling) for many different types of reasons. Some of the reasons are to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, even out skin tone, rid themselves of dark eye circles, reduce scaring etc. There are so many different skin concerns that can be treated. This is why the use of Dr Pen in microneedling procedures in a salon or at home is becoming more and more popular. The Dr Pen Auto Microneedle System is a revolutionary micro-needling skincare device which aims to tighten, lift and rejuvenate your skin. What does the microneedling procedure actually involve? Yes, you can wear makeup after nano needling! To be extra gentle on your skin, we recommend using a mineral-based foundation or concealer. This will ensure that your skin can breathe. It's best to apply your serum within 5 minutes of finishing needles, as this is the time of which micro-channels will still be open.

Make sure skin is cleansed and dried before applying a numbing cream. Apply an alcohol solution such as Isocol Rubbing Alcohol or Chlorexydine over dry skin with a cotton ball before using your microneedling device. Vitamin C: For those looking to brighten the complexion and fade pigmentation and dark spots, a high quality Vitamin C serum will enrich the dermis with antioxidants that neutralise harmful free-radicals in the atmosphere that can bring about premature ageing. Vitamin C is considered to be an ‘active’ ingredient so if you have sensitive skin, as with anything, do a patch test of your Vitamin C serum before applying to the whole face. After a few treatments, you might begin to see a diminished appearance of enlarged pores, reduction of fine lines or a softening of pigmentation spots. Is there anyone who can’t do nano needling? You can read our needling instruction guide here for more info. Want to get started with nano needling? Once again, HA is your best friend! An extremely popular skincare ingredient which features in many moisturisers and serums, hyaluronic acid is also an amazing serum for microneedling.EGF (epidermal growth factor) is used in medicine to speed up wound recovery, and also has multiple benefits for skin, including reducing the appearance of wrinkles, improving hydration, and preventing hyperpigmentation. It’s advisable to stop using any Vitamin A/Retinol type creams 3-5 days before use to prevent irritation. It’s also best if you avoid fish oil or any anti-inflammatory tablets 3-5 days before as well as this increases your risk of bleeding. There is some pain associated with microneedling, however, using a numbing cream will be extremely helpful. The amount of pain will also depend on the length of the needle you choose to use. Downtime When microneedling , it’s important to remember that different areas of the face will require a slightly different technique. Apply numbing cream (optional). You can buy a numbing cream over the counter at the pharmacy and apply according to their directions. Using Dr Pen

As nano needling is gentler than micro needling, this means that it can be performed every one to two weeks. Microneedling, on the other hand, can only be performed once every four to six weeks. If your skincare products contain high concentrations of enzymes, acids or high doses of retinoids, we recommend setting them aside for 3-4 days before and after nano needling.
