Description

Like the Jerusalem Bible, the New Jerusalem Bible makes the uncommon decision to render God's name, the Tetragrammaton in the Jewish scriptures, as Yahweh rather than as Lord which is consistently rendered Yahweh in 6,823 places of the NJB Old Testament. However, "Lord" is a translation of "Adonai". Further, this decision is based on translating or reinstating the earliest known copy of parts of the Old Testament found at Qumran in 1947 (the Dead Sea Scrolls), dating to about the second century BCE. Coincidentally, the Qumran text sometimes agrees with the Septuagint, from about the same period, rather than with the later Masoretic text. [4] For example, in Deuteronomy 32:8–9, not only is "Lord" translated as Yahweh, but a phrase "sons of Israel" is corrected to "sons/children of God" on basis of the Qumran and the Septuagint texts. The NJB is one of the versions authorized to be used in services of the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion. [5] The Revised New Jerusalem Bible: Study Edition. New York: Image. 2019. p.x. Ecclesiastic Swedenborgians often refer to their organizations as part of or contributing to the New Jerusalem as explained by Emanuel Swedenborg in such books as New Jerusalem and Its Heavenly Doctrine, Apocalypse Revealed, and Apocalypse Explained. According to Swedenborg, the New Jerusalem described in the Bible is a symbol for a new dispensation that was to replace/restore Christianity. Also according to these books, this New Jerusalem began to be established around 1757. This stems from their belief that Jerusalem itself is a symbol of the Church, and so the New Jerusalem in the Bible is a prophetic description of a New Church. Revelation 21:22, says that God and the Lamb are New Jerusalem’s temple. There is no need for an actual temple to house God and veil His glory from sinful mankind because the saved people in New Jerusalem will be able to see God face-to-face. 7. No sun or moon

Another notable change is that it uses a modification of the Revised Grail Psalter for the Psalms rather than its own rendering. [11] [15] The New Jerusalem is the city of God. It is not like anything humans have seen before. The Biblical description of the New Jerusalem found in Revelation chapters 21 and 22 is even hard to believe. This version of scripture is translated directly from the Hebrew, Greek or Aramaic. The 1973 French translation, the Bible de Jérusalem, is followed only where the text admits to more than one interpretation. The introductions and notes, with some modifications, are taken from the Bible de Jérusalem. [2] Overview [ edit ] The Jewish apocalypse of 4 Ezra is a text contained in the apocryphal book 2 Esdras. The genre of 4 Ezra is historical fiction, set thirteen years after the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem. Fourth Ezra is dated approximately in 83 CE, thirteen years after the Roman destruction of Jerusalem. The story follows Ezra's period of mourning following Jerusalem's fall. Ezra is Job-like in his criticism of God's allowance of Jerusalem's downfall.Isaiah 66:22 says that “As the new heavens and the new earth that I make will endure before Me,’ declares the Lord, ‘so will your name and descendants endure.”

Colossians 1:16: "For all things in heaven and earth were created in him, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones, dominations, principalities or powers. Everything was created by him and for him." This verse emphasizes the creation of all things through Jesus and how all things are intended for Him.

2. The gates

Good relations between God and humankind. Sin has alienated humans from God. ( Isaiah 59:2) The removal of sin will allow for the complete fulfillment of this prophecy: “The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them.”— Revelation 21:3. Discovered among the Dead Sea Scrolls near Qumran, Israel, were fragments of a scroll which describes New Jerusalem in minute detail. The New Jerusalem Scroll (as it is called) appears to contain apocalyptic vision, although, being fragmented, it is hard to categorize. Written in Aramaic, the text describes a vast city, rectangular in shape, with twelve gates and encircled by a long wall. Similar descriptions appear in Ezekiel 40–48 and Revelation 21–22 and comparison to the Temple Scroll (also found near Qumran) shows many similarities despite no direct literary links between the two. http://digitalcommons.csbsju.edu/cdi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1013&context=headwaters [ permanent dead link] New Jerusalem is part of a government. Ancient Jerusalem was the capital of Israel, the place where King David, his son Solomon, and their descendants ruled “on Jehovah’s throne.” ( 1 Chronicles 29:23) Jerusalem, called “the holy city,” thus represented God’s rulership in the family line of David. ( Nehemiah 11:1) New Jerusalem, also called “the holy city,” is made up of those who join Jesus in heaven “to rule as kings over the earth.”— Revelation 5:9, 10; 21:2. Psalm 8:3-4: "When you contemplate your heavens, work of your fingers, the moon and the stars you established, which is man, why do you remember Him? And the Son of man, to visit him?" This psalm highlights the work of God's creation, including the moon and the stars mentioned in Genesis 1, and questions the role of man in the universe.

Chalcedony is a precious stone primarily having a blue grey color. It can also have yellow, blue or purple pigments. The Bible says that heaven will be more incredible than we can imagine. 1 Corinthians 2:9 says, “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” Sardonyx is a combination of onyx and sard in alternating layers. Sardonyx is also related to chalcedony. The Revised New Jerusalem Bible Study Edition Translated by Henry Wansbrough". www.penguinrandomhouse.com. 2019-12-03. The city has a great and high wall of pure jasper (Revelation 21:12, 18). Revelation 21:17 adds, “Then he [an angel] measured its wall: one hundred and forty-four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of an angel.” So the wall was measured at 216 feet or 144 cubits, which many assume to be the wall’s width. 6. God said, 'Let the earth produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants, and fruit trees on earth, bearing fruit with their seed inside, each corresponding to its own species.' And so it was. The LORD will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. Your sun shall no more go down, or your moon withdraw itself; for the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your days of mourning shall be ended." (Isaiah 60:19)
