Description

The story is beautifully written, humorous, and includes many colorful and charming characters, human and canine, along with a few odious ones. There is a connection between both storylines and they come together at the end, bringing a nice comfortable end to the story.

She is curious by what is behind his office door but knows Anthony will have a perfectly good reason for doing so. It isn’t revealed how this narrative connects with Laura’s until the end, but it does and in a very satisfying way. I am a magpie; always collecting treasures (or ‘junk’ depending on your point of view) and a huge John Betjeman fan. Realising he is running out of time, he leaves his house and all its lost treasures to his assistant Laura, the one person he can trust to fulfil his legacy and reunite the thousands of objects with their rightful owners. Several readers liked the way the people and connections were woven together, particularly in the opening and closing sections.WE’RE ALL JUST WAITING TO BE FOUND…An irresistible debut novel of lost objects and second chances, in the vein of The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry and The Rosie Project. There is an undeniable sense of mystery and intrigue in something “lost”, and if considered enough, a single misplaced object can raise a multitude of questions: Who was the previous owner?

First off I must be honest even though I was excited to read The Keeper Of Lost Things I was however a bit worried it was going to be a bit depressing but how wrong I was! This experience is a charming and gently moving journey into finding oneself and exploring the hidden meaning behind seemingly random items. The whole concept of the book was so wonderful that I really wanted to be transported into a world which I believed was real. Many thanks to the Public Library system, and the many Librarians that manage, organize and keep it running, for the loan of this book!

From the attention-grabbing opening paragraph, to the joyful conclusion, Ruth Hogan has stirred together a charming fairy tale in which the people may be more lost than the things; and generosity and compassion may be the key to finding a way home.

Now out to take a look for some lost things as I would truly love to be a keeper of lost things too! The second point of view is told from the perspective of Eunice and centers around her life-long relationship with publisher/employer/ best friend Bomber. Brokenhearted and torn with guilt, Anthony sought redemption by rescuing lost objects, such as buttons, puzzle pieces, and a menagerie of other misplaced items, and cataloguing them in his study in the hopes that these missing treasures might someday find a way back to whoever lost them. All of the characters are well rounded and seem utterly believable except for one which seems like a caricature (Bomber’s sister, Portia). Shortly after taking on her new responsibilities, she befriends a teenage girl named Sunshine, who has a rather unique outlook on life. When Anthony dies, he leaves everything to Laura, with his last wishes being that she attempt to find the owners of the lost things and that she befriend his neighbor, Sunshine.
