To capitalise on increasing consumer interest in “drinking less, but higher quality products”, Halewood has expanded the Liverpool Gin brand by launching the Liverpool Collection – a craft spirits range which includes Liverpool Gin Valencian Orange, Liverpool Rose Gin and Liverpool Vodka, as well as special editions of Liverpool Gin Distillers Cut, a 16-year-old Trinidadian rum and a 12-year-old whisky. But that’s also why they could only land themselves as the the VK’s everyone knows and loves. University of Manchester – Vodka cokeWant to relax and have fun? Take a seat and let our bar team serve up delicious drinks guaranteed to seduce your taste buds. Unless you’re a UoG student or alumni, you’ll share my confusion over what the hell this actually is. But essentially all it consists of is a VK and two shots of vodka. Glasgow is renowned as being the vibier Edinburgh so they couldn’t be represented in a pre-drink any better. Newcastle University – Squadka Halewood is a medium-sized company and modest compared to its large international competitors but it continues to “fly the flag” for the UK drinks industry internationally, with operations in Romania, South Africa and China. The company exports in over 90 markets worldwide, including significant volumes in North America and Australia.

You have to be a certain level of mature to be able to appreciate a vodka lime and soda. Either that, or you’re too poor to afford the lemonade mixer. Lincoln is on the balance of being both fun and humble – the stuff that goes down here is gossip worthy but equally nothing to shout home about. It’s a classic and we love it. University of Sheffield – Strongbow The acquisitions have strengthened Halewood’s product portfolio in priority categories of craft beer, Irish whiskey, gin and vodka. It would be lovely served over ice, or with a decent tonic to lighten and lengthen the drink. Alternatively it will make an excellent base for a wine spritzer made with red wine & orange juice or with soda water and a squeeze of lime. The positive results follow a restructuring of the business, focus on core brands and rationalisation of non-performing brands in conjunction with a rapid inorganic growth strategy to improve the product portfolio. The introduction of a new highly-experienced spirits focused senior team helped develop the strategy to put premium craft products at the helm, alongside substantial investment in distilling, manufacturing, brand marketing and distribution. I don’t know who they think they are down there, but only Exeter could live down the humiliation of these fruity pre drinks. Maybe it’s the beachy feel, but Uni of Exeter is a Hooch hands down. University of Edinburgh – Vodka cranberryThe small batch potato vodka, launched at the Liverpool Food and Drink festival last year, is traditionally distilled on a Holstein copper pot still. It is lightly distilled to avoid removing taste and character from the liquid resulting in a heritage spirit that is both smooth and complex. It has hoppy bitterness with a full bodied sweetness and bitter coffee finish with a little fruity malt on the aftertaste. Demonstrating continual improvement, existing brands including Red Square, Belgravia, Admiral Benbow and Jules Clairon have been revised too.
