Sunset lives in a glamorous home with a rock star dad and ex-model mum but still she is not happy and Destiny lives in a bunch of grotty old flats with her gorgeous mum but still she is not happy. Melanie Golding pitched this story perfectly, for me it was just the right level of unnerving, sinister and creepy. As a teenager she started work for a magazine publishing company and then went on to work as a journalist on Jackie magazine (which she was told was named after her! My Overall rating of this book would be one hundred and fifty percent out of one hundred percent because i love this book very much.

I really felt for Lauren and also ended up feeling as frustrated as she did when no one believed her--and even when she starts to doubt herself. But she knows what she saw: that night, in her hospital room, a woman tried to take her babies and replace them with her own…creatures. One of Jacqueline’s most successful and enduring creations has been the famous Tracy Beaker, who first appeared in 1991 in The Story of Tracy Beaker. Destiny, on the other hand, is an only child living on a rundown estate with a sickly but devoted mum who constantly tells her that she’s really the daughter of a famous rock star . Detective Joanna Harper isn't convinced Lauren was imagining the incident and she begins to investigate further, contrary to her superior's wishes.

The book takes up the themes of most of Wilson’s work – children looking after parents, broken homes, poverty, feeling isolated etc – and adds an OK magazine lifestyle. As the fourth Children's Laureate (2005-2007) she promoted the importance of sharing books, and reading aloud together. She had discussed maternal bonding with psychologists and other women and found it was often a gradual process despite the popular perception that mothers will feel a "rush of love" when they first see their child. If Little Darlings didn't satisfy your appetite for scares, and you're in the mood to constantly be on the edge of your seat, Brenda Novak's Evelyn Talbot series - starting with Her Darkest Nightmare - is an excellent read.
