He was the only reason I did not DNF this book. I actually forgot how much I loved him and this book reminded me of that. He goes through so much in this series and I hate how, whenever we get scenes with him, the main focus was everything he did bad. About every bad decision he's made. Guess what? He's human. He makes mistakes so please let him be and also think about the good things he did. Thank you.

I was scared to read this book. After A Heart so Fierce and Broken, I was left conflicted and concerned. The direction the plot was going in, and how some characters were treated, really bothered me, and I knew that the final book in this series will make me love it, or hate it. Slowly they get ever closer to Syhl shallow, but they still needed horses, so they go to a town undercover and try to trade deer hide for horses, but they get found out by the royal guards, and they have a fight, but the royal guards had to leave since the townspeople had also joined in, but some of them had gotten injured, so grey attempts to heal them with his magic and he succeeds which also gains him their trust. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I'm not sure if this is the end in this world or if we are going to meet this characters again and to be honest I'm not sure what I actually want. For example, I would love to see Harper and Rhen again and them getting the ending they deserve instead of all this crap, but at the same time I'm not sure I would be able to endure another book with Lia Mara. Although with another book maybe my love for Grey would return. I miss the Grey I used to know.

Need Help?

Oh my poor Harper, what happened to you? She just wasn't the same character that I knew in ACSDAL. Yeah, it's obvious that she changed. But what she's had in this book cannot be called character development as it's not that. I feel like everything that I loved about her was erased by the end of the book. I did not recognize her anymore, She wasn't the brave girl that I knew anymore. End of story.

Honestly speaking, I love these two. They’re adorable and suit each other so well. Almost to the point where it interferes with the plot. I wonder if he would see me as a failure—and I also wonder if I would want a man like that to see me as a success.” Harper and Rhen: You can probably already gauge my feelings towards these two. I have loved them both since the first book, and I will always and forever continue loving them. I just wish this whole BOOK could be about them, but I suppose that Grey and Lia Mara's POVs were relevant as well. During Harper and Rhen's parts, I felt happy Except the moment when literally everyone is getting killed and Rhen's eye gets ripped out and I was enjoying learning more about the two of them and both of them together. So, he's off at Syhl Shallow with Lia Mara and every chapter from either of their POVs was painful. To me, they have zero chemistry and I struggle to believe that someone as disciplined and driven as Grey would have any interest in her at all. I love smut and I skimmed their sex scene, which of course results in a baby. Edited to add: Because a few people have told me I would like this book more if I had continued it, I probably should mention that, after choosing to "officially" DNF it where I did, I skimmed forward and read chunks of the rest of the book here and there to see if I might be more intrigued by what was happening. I then also skipped ahead and read the last few chapters (I know, blasphemy, but this is something that has convinced me to continue a boring or disappointing book many times in the past, so I was hopeful). Unfortunately, not only did I find the plot line predictable enough that literally NOTHING about the end surprised me, but I was even more frustrated by the characters by the end that I can safely guarantee nothing that happened between the sections I read would have redeemed AHSFAB for me. :( /end editSo, I do think this book was a step up from A Heart So Fierce and Broken personally. The characters seemed more in character, Rhen isn't so cold and callous, and the plot had me HOOKED. I refuse to believe this is how the book ends. This book is a mess. (PLEASE TELL ME THIS WAS JUST A CRUEL JOKE AND THIS IS NOT HOW THE BOOK ENDS) I'm really scared about Rhen because oh God he doesn't know about Grey's abilities, and Grey's not telling him, and these two fools are going to destroy the world because of miscommunication.
