There are also sections featuring the history of the design, tips for scarf construction, a gallery of scarves knitted by fans (and me) plus some fun ephemera. Made on a domestic knitting machine this piece takes several hours to complete, using a mixture of wool and acrylic yarns and a further few hours to sew up, fringe and complete , its double thickness to give a very warm and cosy feel to this fabulous scarf. Brief holographic clips of the Fourth Doctor appear in " The Next Doctor" (2008) and " The Eleventh Hour" (2010).

In the 24th episode of the series Epic Rap Battles of History the Tenth Doctor is in a rap battle with Doc Brown from Back to the Future when he is shot by a Dalek and regenerates into the Fourth Doctor (played by George Watsky).

A renegade Time Lord attempts to pull the first five incarnations of the Doctor out of time, inadvertently trapping the Fourth Doctor (and Romana) in a "time eddy" from which they are later freed. This incarnation is generally regarded as one of the most recognisable of the Doctors and one of the most popular, especially in the United States. Shortly after this, the Fourth Doctor and Romana are projected outside the known universe and into a universe of negative coordinates, known as Exo-Space. Both Nyssa and her father, Tremas, assist the Doctor in stopping Melkur, who is in fact revealed to be another TARDIS that is controlled by the Master. The Fourth Doctor is also seen briefly during Missy's exposition of the Twelfth Doctor's fighting android assassins (" The Witch's Familiar").

The requests must have come regularly, because a similar memo is reprinted from many years later to another fan’s family. Instead they ended up on the planet Zeta Minor ( Planet of Evil), located at the far edge of the known universe. Some say that the normal size version is actually perfect, and that it can be worn for everyday use. At times, Tom Baker's Fourth Doctor wore one three times his own height - but this Scarf is modelled on a shorter one largely used for action sequences. In 1997, Baker reprised the role once again in a spot for New Zealand's National Superannuation insurance company.

A lot of Doctor Who characters wore scarves though some of those were not adaptations of the original 4th Doctor scarf. From now until the end of the exhibition, we’re going to be knitting a stripy scarf in sections made by lots of different people.
