Description

The wording and illustration in this book shows how a relationship can be between two women, and how the love for the child can be the same. Share the loving bond between same-sex parents and their children in this hearttwearming story of family. I feel like this will give kids the chance to realize that can still find similarities in their family in comparison to a friend who might have two dads or two moms.

Not so long ago, we heard about Peter Parnell’s controversial children’s book And Tango Makes Three, a true story about a pair of male Penguins in Central Park Zoo raising a chick. A past poet laureate of Northampton, Massachusetts, she is a faculty member of Spalding University's brief-residency MFA in Writing program. The illustrations and the language used in reading the book are substantive without being inaccessible to younger children. As a children's librarian I do occasionally have to deal with parents who look at the books I recommend to them and then say, "Do you have anything less .The poems, written in a variety of forms (sonnet, pantoum, villanelle, sestina, terza rima, haiku, and others) are finely crafted, completely accessible, and full of startling, poignant, and powerful imagery.

Such a mundane thing that parents of any gender or sexuality does every day, yet I think that's the point to the whole story. It's a sweet story that shows that LGBT+ parents are the same as what is considered "normal" parents. It’s also a simple task that the mommy or mama do for their child that children reading this book can relate to what their parents do for them. It creates congruency which is needed in situations such as this one so the child can transition easily. As we’ve learned, having things rhyme for children makes it more fun for them, and can also help them remember things better. They add a little extra to the story, by really showing the loving relationships between the characters.

You may be familiar with the tale of the Very Hungry Caterpillar and what he eats over the course of a week, but now it’s time to join him as he makes his way home to bed. Featuring a vibrant rainbow design, and our super-sized Q logo, you won't find a more stylish way to make a statement. I believe this is a well written book that would be good for younger children to learn about the different types of families. The two mothers, however, are represented in a positive light, showing that they have a happy family with the characters smiling in each image. From 2005-2009, Lesléa was a faculty member of the Stonecoast MFA program at the University of Southern Maine. In fact, it's a little hard to tell the difference, other than by what the child itself describes, making both parents truly equal. Rhythmic text and illustrations with universal appeal show a toddler spending the day with its mommies.
