Every aspect of the drum looked and felt solid. They fit together without any issues or annoying gaps, helping you play smoothly. The kit has a similar hardware design to the Masters Series, coming with SuperHoop II hoops on the drums for that added tonal boost. In my experience, these are results you will rarely get in kits at this price range. Pearl has tried to keep everything within professional lines, helping users get top-end features at an affordable price. The bearing edges are incredibly consistent and did not have any problem.

Every user expects that every drum the manufacturer makes at least offers a solid feel and function. The sound is also expected to be decent as the kit survives a large share of abuse.When testing each kit, I assessed their sonic performance, build quality, and versatility. I wanted to see what made each Pearl kit so good, and then I compared that to the quality that you get from other kits. Cymbals are arguably a more important investment than drums in a jazz drumming setup. It may be better to get a slightly more affordable jazz kit to spend more on quality cymbals for jazz. Setup and assembly takes a mere 15 minutes from emptying the contents of the boxes. The resulting little bop kit gives a remarkably positive impression. Oooohs, Aahs and big grins all around from the three of us. Accentuating the sleek wood hoops are the almost excessively nice claw hooks with rubber inserts to protect the hoop’s surface. OptiLoc Suspension System The shells are all 6-ply of 7.5 mm poplar. They have a standard 45-degree inner, and a little smoothed over 45 degrees put outside bearing edges. This is a feature you can get from a more expensive product.

Sonor’s Jungle kits set the quintessential blueprint for a lot of micro/compact setups in the ‘90s. Taking aim squarely at the growing trend for drummers wanting to emulate the higher-pitched sampled sounds heard in drum’n’bass and hip-hop, the Jungle’s popularity became something of a catch-all eponym for kits of this size. Fast forward to today, though, and the configuration is called ‘Safari’ and is available as part of Sonor’s AQ2 series. But it was not until a decade ago that the evolution of the “Jungle” started manifesting. It has now moved from a DIY setup to a whole genre.
