Well, what can I say… Thirty years later, I “swallowed” the trilogy in about a month – and it took me so long only because I was reading it during a very busy time and could dedicate to it only short moments before bedtime. I'm assuming everyone by now has a pretty good idea of what the book is about, so this review focuses on the look and feel of this edition.

Das Buch selbst ist zu einem viertel in rotem Leder gebunden der Rest des Einbands besteht aus einem schwarzen Leinen. The sale of customised goods or perishable goods, sealed audio or video recordings, or software, which has been opened.

it was a rarefied and highly personal world, yet it proved a fertile soil from which his great fantasy novels were to grow. The characters are unforgettable, the landscapes vividly described, and the plot intricately layered. His books have been translated into over 80 languages and have sold many millions of copies worldwide.

Leaving his comfortable hobbit hole Bilbo Baggins goes on a reluctant adventure to defeat a dragon, and along the way he encounters the vile, but pathetic Gollum, and his ‘Precious’ – a ring to rule them all. They're not thick like the illustrated collection but not thin enough that the pages appear transparent. Also appearing are two removable fold-out maps drawn by Christopher Tolkien revealing all the detail of Middle-earth. I say this as the inner binding covers are top quality and very robust, such that I have read all four volumes without the dust jacket (leaving it in the box set in the place of the actual volume) and none of them have a blemish in sight. First Impressions in this form, published by Harpercollins in 2002, featuring a number of full colour illustrations by Alan Lee. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The book isn't too heavy and the pages open up flat, which makes it perfect for this who enjoy reading for long periods of time. It's one of the finest books ever conceived and was adapted into a fantastic trilogy of movies by Peter Jackson.Sure, it did cost me an arm and a leg but this I believe is a copy that will do me until the day I die. Featuring ink-sprayed edges and two maps of Middle-earth, this special edition is illustrated throughout in colour by Tolkien himself. It leads on nicely from the extremely charming first book and takes it in a considerably darker, more mature place. John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born in South Africa in 1892 and moved to England with his family while still a child.

Set in the richly crafted world of Middle-earth, it weaves a tale of heroism, friendship, and the battle between good and evil. Tolkien believed that the roots of myth and the roots of language are one and indivisible, and he demonstrated this belief by creating an entirely new language (Elvish) with its own grammar, its own beautiful script and its own mythology. Tolkien’s treatment of the eternal struggle between good and evil, from stirring battles (‘as good as anything in Homer’, according to C. These books also have stitched bindings that make them fall open easy and lay flat without having to force them.
