Gallagher strolls on stage, deliciously on-brand in a cagoule, shoulders down, face rising up to meet the microphone as he blares out Morning Glory from Oasis’s 1995 LP (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? as a how do you do. In a musical landscape increasingly dominated by acts pumping out ancillary video content on socials, servicing fans 24/7, he feels like one of the last bastions of the idea that singers should not be approachable, or like the rest of us; that they should come mob-handed, with bone structure and maracas. Will Oasis catch reunion fever? Damon Albarn’s got money on it

But fans still have some hope to cling on to, as Toby concludes: "I've learnt that life is a weird thing and sometimes the things that seem the least likely do sometimes happen… If they did decide to do it one day, I just can't imagine how gargantuan that event would be." The epic sold-out gigs, which saw 170,000 fans descend on Stevanage across the Jubilee weekend, mirroring the Manchester band's historic duo of gigs in August 1996, cemented Liam Gallagher's status as a stadium-filling solo act. The production on Knebworth 22 is perfect with crystal-clear sound but without the sense that it’s been polished to within an inch of its life in the studio. Is there anything new here? Well not really, but this is a well-presented and enjoyable album full of fantastic songs – a worthwhile addition to the collections of die-hard fans and completists while providing a great overview for those playing catch-up. For anyone who attended any of last summer’s dates, and Knebworth in particular, you get the perfect memento in the form of an album which really captures the raw atmosphere of the Liam Gallagher live experience. Should you dash out and buy it? Definitely maybe.Roll It Over’ originally featured on the Oasis album ‘Standing On The Shoulder of Giants’ and, while the band never played it live, it nonetheless turned out to be a lesser-known fan favourite. National treasure, Manchester music legend, gobby egotist, self-styled godfather of northern cool Liam Gallagher has been called them all – and much more besides. At the time his 2022 gig was announced, Liam called it "beyond biblical," adding, "let's do it again in another 26 years". Album Top 40 slágerlista (fizikai hanghordozók) – 2023. 34. hét". MAHASZ . Toby says the answer to that is that it's something the world needed, more than we could have possibly imagined. Completing an all-new top three on the latest chart blast is Volcano (Caiola), from electronic act Jungle. Volcano should blast to the duo’s fourth top 10 appearance. At a time when it's easy to feel powerless to the weight of the world around us, hopefully this film can be a small reminder of what we're capable of overcoming. It's a love letter to live music and being together again."

The theatrical event screenings will also feature two additional songs from the Knebworth performance to be played after the main feature, which will be exclusive to cinemas and won't appear on any further release of the film. And, just last month, Noel said in an interview there was "no point" in an Oasis reunion as the band sell "as many records now" as they did when they were together. Moreover, Liam selling out Knebworth solo felt like the definitive mic-drop in the continuing spat between Liam and his guitarist brother, Noel, Oasis’s songwriter. Oasis broke up in 2009 when Noel dramatically quit before a gig in France, citing his brother’s behaviour as the reason. In the aftermath, the rump Oasis lineup carried on as Beady Eye, while Noel founded his next band, High Flying Birds. For a while, it felt as if Noel, the creative, was doing notable things while Liam, the shopfront, was coasting with Beady Eye. Liam’s marriage broke down; he cut ties with his Pretty Green fashion label; and Beady Eye split, in part so that guitarist Andy Bell would be free to reform Ride, his Britpop-era shoegaze band. He said "We wanted to add another layer to Liam Gallagher's life and story by not just commemorating his return to such hallowed grounds as a solo artist, but also sharing the light with those that make Knebworth such a landmark location - the people.

The live renditions in fact add a welcome edge compared to the more sterile studio versions, providing further justification for this release with the band sounding, as Gallagher modestly puts it; ‘Biblical’. The River ends with Liam declaring; ‘This one’s gonna be the last one – sorry’, but he was never going to finish off with the sugary-sweet sentimentality of Once and the inevitable encores follow. While not repeating the themes explored in the earlier film, Liam Gallagher: As It Was, Toby says his documentary goes on to "highlight again in a new up to date way that transition point between what do you do after peaking in the biggest band of the time and then try to find your own solo voice and growing up in public". Liam Gallagher says of the release: “So we recorded the Knebworth gigs we did last year. We all sound Biblical, turn it up ENJOY, LGx." He explains: "I was struggling to find a way, while we were building such personal stories around Liam, how we were going to put the Oasis music in, in a way that felt contextually sound and also in the context of the fact that there was another Oasis Knebworth documentary only a year ago [Oasis: Knebworth 1996, directed by Jake Scott in 2021]… Image: Oasis members (L-R) Alan White, Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs, Liam Gallagher, Noel Gallagher and Paul Guigsy McGuigan in 1996

Liam Gallagher: Knebworth 22 is directed by Toby L. and produced by Josh Connolly. Debbie Gwyther, Sam Eldridge, Kate Shepherd, Laura Collins, Jeremy Davies and Bruce Gilmer serve as executive producers. Liam Gallagher documents his triumphant two nights at Knebworth Park with the live album 'Knebworth 22'. In front of 170,000 people – from fans already present 26 years earlier for the mythical Oasis concert in the same place to teenagers savoring the excitement of a first big concert – the Mancunian artist asserted himself as the voice of two generations.Knebworth 22’ further cements Liam’s reputation as the incredible live performer that he is and how this iconic gig will go down in history as one of his best ever performances. a b Empire, Kitty (12 August 2023). Hot Press . Retrieved 15 August 2023. From here on, it’s sure-fire Oasis bangers with Cigarettes And Alcohol (Liam sounding more like Johnny Rotten’s sneering Mancunian cousin than ever), Some Might Say, Supersonic, Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova (dedicated to his mum) predictably initiating an audible increase in the already impressive audience decibel levels. Again, these renditions really hit the mark and, while they may not stray that far from the original template, it’s a great excuse to wallow in nostalgia and remind ourselves just what an impact those young guys made on the musical landscape.
